Offer Description

NEWTON is a training network that a revolutionary approach of a converged wireless-optical network architecture that makes reality an efficient 6G Cell Free (CF)-based access network for high-density and high-coverage deployments It is a Doctoral Network funded by the Horizon Europe Research Program through the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Action, under the title: “NovEl tEchnologies for converged Wireless-opTical cOnfiguratioNs”.

The research will cover three key pillars:

* Artificial-Intelligence (AI)-driven models in the access domain, focusing on CF technology to efficiently acquire Channel State Information (CSI) in dense CF networks, while supporting infrastructure with a high number of antennas;
* Scalable solutions for the interconnection of data-centers, to enable distributed neuromorphic architectures, while also being in line with the Open RAN initiative;
* Novel AI-based resource allocation solutions, targeting the optimal utilization of both networking and computational resources.

In this context, NEWTON will build a training network to conduct top-notch research towards the development and experimental evaluation of a gamut of techniques, methodological frameworks, and tools. The 15 Doctoral Candidates (DCs) will be hosted by the Project partners in cities like Barcelona (Spain), Patras (Greece), Leuven (Belgium), piaseczno (Poland), Sophia Antipolis (Nice, France), Athens (Greece), Roskilde (Denmark), Barcelona (Spain), Cambridge (United Kingdom) offered a four-year, exclusive, and full-time contract as well as enrollment to a PhD program. Six-month secondments to consortium partners will also form an integral part of the contract.

The DCs will:

* carry out individual research projects in the field of novel automation architectures for 6G networks, under the supervision of an expert and with international collaboration
* learn to master academic writing and author journal publications
* present their work at projects workshops, plenary meetings, and international conferences participate in secondments to consortium partners
* contribute to the supervision of undergraduate students.

We are seeking highly motivated, enthusiastic, and curiosity-driven researchers to join our dynamic teams. Ideal candidates should:

* Hold, or be close to completing, a Master’s degree in Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, or Computer Science.
* Possess programming skills.
* Be excellent team players, ready to engage in an enthusiastic and hardworking group of scientists and engineers on a joint project.
* Show capacities in both written and spoken English, with excellent communication skills, to fully benefit from the network training.
* Be capable of collaborating intensively with both industrial and academic partners through regular meetings and work visits, and enjoy working in an interdisciplinary and international environment.
