Quaderno is looking for a proactive and detail-oriented
Software Engineer
to join our Engineering Team. You will be instrumental in developing the core features that allow our global users to navigate international tax compliance seamlessly. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone eager to build expertise in FinTech and global tax compliance in a fast-paced, remote-first environment.

Responsibilities

This is a hands-on development role where you will be directly contributing to our core application using
Ruby on Rails
. Your main focus will be:

* Core Feature Development:
Designing, implementing, and maintaining new features and services for our SaaS product using
Ruby and Ruby on Rails
.
* System Optimization:
Identifying and addressing performance bottlenecks, optimizing database queries, and ensuring the application scales reliably to handle high transaction volumes globally.
* Compliance Logic Integration:
Collaborating closely with the Product team to translate complex, constantly changing international tax legislation into accurate, well-tested code.
* Quality Assurance:
Writing clean, efficient, and well-tested code (utilizing
RSpec
and continuous integration) and actively participating in code reviews to maintain high engineering standards.
* Infrastructure Collaboration:
Working with DevOps principles to improve deployment pipelines, monitoring, and overall system resilience in our cloud environment

Qualifications

We are seeking a candidate who is deeply committed to writing high-quality code and possesses the following traits and technical qualifications:

Must-haves

* Experience:
2+ years of professional experience developing and deploying production-grade applications using
Ruby on Rails
.
* Database Expertise:
Strong proficiency in SQL and experience with MySQL or similar relational databases, including query optimization and schema design.
* SaaS/Web Knowledge:
Solid understanding of API design (RESTful), background processing (e.g., Sidekiq/Redis), and cloud environments (e.g., AWS).
* Testing Skills:
Proven ability to write comprehensive unit and integration tests (preferably
RSpec
) to ensure code reliability and minimize regressions.
* Proactivity:
A self-starter who takes full ownership of the development lifecycle, from initial design through deployment and monitoring.

Nice to have

* Previous experience in a
FinTech, Accounting, or Payments
sector, particularly dealing with financial data.
* Familiarity with the architecture of high-volume, global
SaaS
business models.
* Experience with
JavaScript
and modern front-end concepts (e.g., React, Vue) to assist with occasional full-stack tasks.
* Contributions to open-source projects or a strong portfolio demonstrating relevant skills.

Selection process

4. Technical Review

Once we've reviewed your assignment, selected candidates will be invited to a video call with one of your potential future colleagues. During this one-hour remote interview, we'll discuss your approach to the task, explore your technical expertise, and answer any questions you may have.

5. Interview with the CEO

If you advance to this stage, you'll meet with our CEO for a deeper conversation. This is a chance to discuss your background, learn more about our company culture, review role details, and address any questions you might have.

6. Offer

If everything aligns, congratulations—you'll receive an offer to join our team
