PROOF. are retained on by a European Battery Systems developer, generating revenue with 100+ Staff. We are looking for a CTO to take them company through their next stage of growth.
This role is best suited to an eager engineer with leadership experience on an upward trajectory with their career.
Please note this role will require a relocation the a major European city
The Opportunity
Reporting directly to the CEO, the CTO will be responsible for defining and executing the company’s long-term technology vision with significant board exposure.
This individual will lead multidisciplinary engineering teams across product development, systems engineering, software, and technical operations while ensuring alignment between technology, commercial objectives, and customer requirements.
The successful candidate will combine deep technical expertise with strong leadership capabilities and a proven ability to scale engineering organizations in high-growth environments.
Key Responsibilities Technology Leadership
* Define and execute the company’s long-term technology strategy and product vision.
* Establish technical roadmaps aligned with commercial growth objectives.
* Lead technical decision-making across hardware, software, controls, and systems architecture.
* Drive innovation and continuous product improvement initiatives.
* Evaluate emerging technologies and market trends to maintain competitive advantage.
Product & Systems Development
* Own overall product architecture and system integration strategy.
* Oversee the development of complex electro-mechanical and software-enabled products.
* Ensure product performance, reliability, scalability, and manufacturability objectives are achieved.
* Lead engineering reviews, design governance, and technical risk management activities.
* Support transition from development through validation, certification, and commercial deployment.
Engineering Leadership
* Build, mentor, and develop high-performing engineering leadership teams.
* Lead managers responsible for product development, systems engineering, software, and technical delivery.
* Establish processes that enable efficient product development and cross-functional collaboration.
* Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and technical excellence.
External Partnerships
* Develop strategic technology partnerships with suppliers, research institutions, and industry stakeholders.
* Manage key technical supplier relationships and technology collaborations.
* Represent the company in technical discussions with customers, partners, regulators, and investors.
Regulatory & Compliance
* Ensure products meet relevant industry standards, certification requirements, and regulatory obligations.
* Lead technical engagement with certification bodies, testing organizations, and industry associations.
* Support product qualification and compliance activities across international markets.
Commercial Support
* Partner closely with business development and commercial teams on customer opportunities.
* Provide technical leadership during customer engagements and strategic partnerships.
* Support major bids, proposals, demonstrations, and technical due diligence processes.
Experience
* 10+ years leadership experience within energy storage
* Proven track record leading multidisciplinary engineering organizations.
* Experience scaling products and engineering teams through periods of rapid growth.
* Demonstrated success bringing complex products from concept through commercialization.
* Experience managing both hardware and software development functions.
* Experience working with chinese cell providers.
Technical Expertise
* Strong background in electrical power systems, energy storage, power electronics, industrial systems, or related technologies.
* Deep understanding of complex system architecture and integration.
* Broad software experience
* Experience with safety-critical or mission-critical systems is highly desirable.
* Familiarity with certification, compliance, and regulatory environments.
