What your role is
Position Overview
As an R&D Packaging Engineer attached to the R&D Applications Team, you will be responsible for driving packaging development projects across innovation, core range renovation, sustainability, and margin management for Old El Paso and Green Giant to enable our business to win in the marketplace.
In this role, you will leverage your technical, influence, and project management skills and partner with cross-functional teams, internal and external partners to identify, develop, and implement packaging solutions for new or existing products.
Accountabilities
* Manage and lead multiple projects: create and execute technical plans, risk assessments, mitigation plans, prototypes, manage timelines, and communicate work effectively.
* Collaborate with factory teams for industrial trials, build trial reports, and communicate conclusions.
* Maintain and update packaging technical specifications.
* Build strong relationships and work collaboratively with cross-functional stakeholders across R&D, Marketing, Sourcing, Supply Chain, and External Partners.
* Communicate project progress, risks, and changes to business partners; influence decisions with deep consumer, technical, and business understanding.
* Lead collaboration with partners to develop robust packaging pipelines based on consumer needs and business strategy.
* Develop and maintain relationships with external networks to broaden perspective and leverage capabilities.
* Stay informed of packaging technology developments, regulatory changes, and competitive activity.
* Share knowledge within General Mills’ global packaging community to align on initiatives.
Skills / Experiences
* Bachelor’s Degree in packaging, mechanical engineering, or relevant discipline.
* Minimum 4 years of experience in Packaging Development, Engineering, or Technology.
* Experience in packaging for food thermal applications (tin, jar).
* Ability to lead packaging ideation, development, and commercialization with stakeholders.
* Deep technical knowledge of interactions between product, packaging, and equipment.
* Experience with quality and regulatory considerations.
* Creative design ability preferred.
* Consumer-first mindset; experience with design thinking.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
* Analytical and problem-solving skills.
* Proficiency in English and French, both written and spoken.
