Beat Games is an integral part of Reality Labs at Meta, and the smash hit game, Beat Saber, is a top performer on the Quest Platform. Beat Games is located in Prague, Czech Republic, and they are the award-winning game studio that created the original Beat Saber, which has sold over 4 million copies to date and has collaborated with some of the biggest names in music including Queen, The Rolling Stones, Billie Eilish, Lady Gaga, BTS, and The Weeknd. Working in an inclusive and diverse studio, you will lead and inspire cross-functional teams to contribute to the transformation of the creative vision into a variety of systems and mechanics that elevate music-driven game content, established by our iconic VR title Beat Saber.
Game Director Responsibilities
* Work with the Studio Leadership team to develop and maintain the creative vision and direction for our games, ensuring alignment with the studio's overall strategy and goals.
* Develop your game design direction, evangelize this with the design team and across the wider development team.
* Provide your team with general guidelines to design their specific gameplay features and allow them the flexibility to experiment and iterate.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define game concepts, mechanics, and features, and ensure effective implementation.
* Lead the development of game prototypes, vertical slices, and proof-of-concepts to validate game ideas and mechanics.
* Support your game design team in developing their features, providing mentorship and constructive feedback to achieve quality.
* Adapt to technical and production constraints, feedback, and playtest results, readjusting your design direction when needed.
* Review and assess features for improvement, addition, or removal, interpreting data to inform decisions.
* Partner with production to ensure games are developed within budget, schedule, and quality constraints, meeting standards for innovation, creativity, and player engagement.
* Collaborate with various departments within Reality Labs to ensure successful game launches and ongoing support.
* Occasionally travel locally and abroad to present the game, meet with external and internal partners, visit co-dev studios, etc.
* Possess game development experience shipping multiple titles or equivalent, with leadership experience (e.g., Creative Director, Game Director, Lead Game Designer, or Executive Producer).
* Apply structured design principles to support and coach the team, driving innovation and efficient processes aligned with the high-level game vision.
* Understand game development documentation philosophies, pipelines, processes, and technologies.
* Demonstrate experience seeking feedback and critique, using an analytical approach to adapt concepts and designs based on feedback, data, and discussions.
* Have experience with VR / AR / MR game development.
* Have experience or interest in developing rhythm-based, music, or action games.
* Possess knowledge of game engines (e.g., Unity, Unreal Engine).
* Familiarity with Agile development methodologies
* Experience or knowledge of structured game design approaches (e.g., Rational Game Design).
