The UCAM-SENS unit is seeking a highly motivated PhD student to join its cutting-edge research in electrochemical devices. This position focuses on the development of next- generation electrochemical platforms for sensing, energy conversion, and biomedical applications.

UCAM-SENS is a leading research unit dedicated to electrochemical innovation for healthcare, environmental monitoring, and energy solutions. By integrating electrochemistry with advanced materials and engineering, the unit delivers pioneering solutions with real-world impact.
Led by Prof. María Cuartero (ERC Fellow) and Prof. Gaston Crespo, UCAM-SENS fosters research excellence, education, and industry collaboration. The unit operates within HiTech, a research incubator that promotes a multicultural and multidisciplinary environment.
PhD Research Focus
The selected PhD student will contribute to the design, fabrication, and optimization of electrochemical devices, exploring novel electrode materials, miniaturization strategies, and real-time analytical capabilities for diverse applications, including biosensing and energy storage.
Position Requirements
Required Qualifications
- M.Sc. degree in Electrochemistry, Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Nanotechnology, or related fields.
- Proven experience in one or more of the following areas:
o Electrochemical sensors and devices
o Energy storage/conversion systems (batteries, fuel cells, supercapacitors)
o Microfluidic and lab-on-a-chip electrochemical platforms
o Advanced electrode materials and surface modifications
o In situ and operando electrochemical characterization techniques
- Fluent English proficiency (B2/C1 level or higher).
- Strong experimental, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
