The research will contribute to improving the monitoring of water discharges entering the Mar Menor through the Albujón watershed by combining electrochemical sensor development, environmental sampling, and hydrological monitoring. The project aims to design and implement sensor platforms capable of performing real-time, in situ monitoring of nitrate concentrations and other nutrients, helping to better understand nutrient pollution dynamics and the impact of rainfall events on water quality.
**Key Responsibilities**
**Sensor Development and Optimization**
Participate in the development, fabrication, and testing of electrochemical sensors for the detection of nitrates and other nutrients in water, including the use of additive manufacturing and electrochemical techniques.
**Laboratory Experiments**
Perform laboratory work for the fabrication, calibration, and optimization of sensors, using analytical and electrochemical methods.
**Field Sampling and Environmental Monitoring**
Participate in field campaigns in the Albujón watershed to collect water samples and support environmental monitoring activities.
**Laboratory Analysis and Validation**
Analyse environmental samples using techniques such as ion chromatography, potentiometric electrodes, and other analytical methods to validate sensor performance.
**Hydrological Monitoring Support**
Collaborate in monitoring water flow and hydrological events using field measurements and camera-based systems.
**Data Acquisition and Analysis**
Assist in the organization, processing, and analysis of environmental and experimental data obtained from field measurements and laboratory experiments.
**Research Dissemination**
Contribute to project reports, scientific publications, and presentations related to the project results.
**Requirements**:
- Master’s degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Hydrology, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
- Interest in electrochemistry, chemical sensing, environmental monitoring, or water quality analysis.
- Basic experience with laboratory work and analytical techniques.
- Ability to work in a multidisciplinary research team.
- Good communication skills in English.
