1 day ago Be among the first 25 applicantsWe are seeking a highly experienced multi-skilled Lead Database Administrator (DBA) to oversee the management, performance, and strategic direction of our cloud-based database infrastructure supporting mission-critical online payment systems. This role requires deep technical expertise in AWS-native databases—specifically DynamoDB, RDS PostgreSQL, and MongoDB—as well as a strong command of data architecture, governance, and operational best practices across our OLTP systems.In addition to hands-on database responsibilities, the Lead DBA will serve as a technical leader / manager and mentor for a small team of data engineers, collaborating closely with application developers, DevOps, and cybersecurity teams to ensure secure, scalable, and efficient data operations. The ideal candidate brings both tactical execution skills and strategic vision for evolving our data platforms in a fast-paced, high-availability environment.Key Responsibilities :
Manage and optimize the performance, availability, and scalability of databases in AWS, including DynamoDB, RDS PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and OpenSearch.Implement and maintain backup, recovery, high availability (HA), and disaster recovery (DR) strategies for all managed databases.Monitor database performance and proactively address issues related to latency, throughput, and resource consumption.Define and evolve the data architecture to support robust, secure, and scalable storage patterns across multiple AWS database services, especially related to Payments and our ecosystem.Enforce and evolve data governance policies, including data classification, lineage, and access controls.Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements for data privacy, integrity, and retention.Lead, manage, and mentor a small team of data engineers, promoting continuous learning, collaboration, and high performance.Delegate operational tasks and support development efforts to balance the team's workload and improve delivery velocity.Conduct regular code and solution architecture reviews, fostering a culture of accountability and technical excellence.Collaborate with software engineers, DevOps, product owners, and security teams to ensure database solutions meet application requirements.Act as the data SME in cross-functional initiatives, including platform modernization and payment system enhancements.Communicate database performance metrics, risks, and improvement plans to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.Implement database security best practices including encryption, IAM policies, role-based access control, and audit logging.Ensure compliance with internal policies and external standards such as PCI DSS for online payment systems.Requirements :
Minimum of 6 years experience leading teams within a database and software development / implementation environment.Proven experience with AWS Cloud Database technologies including DynamoDB, Aurora RDS (Postgres), and MongoDB (Atlas Cloud).Experience with observability techniques, standards, and tools related to system monitoring and alerting.Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, or a related field.Previous experience and knowledge within the online payments industry is highly appreciated.Ability to utilize multiple data sources to drive ROI and identify trends for KPI mitigation.Strong background balancing technical and business considerations.Fluent in English;
Spanish proficiency is a plus.Excellent communication skills, able to confidently engage with C-level stakeholders.Attention to detail, organizational, and analytical skills;
