Data Scientist in Digital Health – AI Factories (RE3)

About BSC
The Barcelona Supercomputing Center – Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC-CNS) is the leading supercomputing centre in Spain, hosting MareNostrum and providing state‑of‑the‑art HPC and AI infrastructures. BSC is dedicated to research, development and management of information technologies to facilitate scientific progress.
Key Duties
* Develop AI methods for health applications:
o Deep learning architectures (transformers, generative AI, agentic AI)
o Multimodal learning (medical imaging, omics, EHRs, wearables, etc.)
o NLP for biomedical and clinical data
* Support AI Factory users (start‑ups, SMEs, corporates, academia, public institutions) in building early‑stage AI healthcare applications.
* Provide data‑science consulting and strategic input to projects in medicine and biotechnology.
* Attend and contribute to entrepreneurship and innovation training (business planning, investor pitching, startup development, data‑science strategy).
* Publish research results and present at international conferences.
* Participate in outreach and dissemination within the AI Factories innovation ecosystem.
Requirements
* Education
o Master’s degree in Computer Science, Biomedical Sciences, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, or related fields.
o PhD is welcome (plus), but not required.
* Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
o Expertise in machine learning / deep learning applied to biomedical or healthcare data.
o Strong programming skills (Python, R, etc.).
o Familiarity with deep learning frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow).
o Strong interest in entrepreneurship and innovation ecosystems (training will be provided).
* Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience
o Previous experience as a Data Scientist in industry settings (healthcare, biotechnology, pharma, AI start‑ups, or technology companies) is highly desirable.
o Hands‑on experience with transformers, generative AI, agentic AI, NLP, or multimodal AI.
o Familiarity with HPC environments or large‑scale data infrastructures.
o Experience developing deep learning solutions for medical imaging in cancer research or oncology applications is highly desirable.
* Competences
o Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
o Ability to interact with clinical, academic, and industrial partners.
o Fluency in English, Catalan, and Spanish.
Conditions
* Location: BSC within the Life Sciences Department.
* Full‑time contract (35 h/week) with flexible working hours, extensive training plan, restaurant tickets, private health insurance, and relocation support.
* Open‑ended contract linked to the duration of the project and available budget.
* Holidays: 22 days + 6 personal days + holidays on 24th and 31st December.
* Competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience, adjusted for the cost of living in Barcelona.
* Start date: as soon as possible.
