Region West Europe is part of the Maritime business area. The region includes all operational classification business across nine countries. It operates with three Service Lines: Newbuilding (NB), Certification and Verification of Material & Components (CMC / VMC), and Fleet in Service (FiS).
The Fleet in Service (FiS) service line covers both Ships in Operation and Offshore Units in Operation. Our FiS team based in Spain demonstrates daily passion and engagement in both segments. The Ships in Operation team deals with a variety of vessel types, focusing on Container Ships, Ferries, Gas tankers, Oil Carriers, Chemical Carriers, Offshore Service vessels, Crane vessels, Passenger Vessels, and HSLC.
We are seeking a passionate individual interested in the maritime industry, especially in sustainable future and safety improvements in shipping, to join us as a Surveyor for Fleet in Service, based in Algeciras. You will join a highly qualified and enthusiastic FiS team, a top-tier Ship Classification hub, working with international fleet operators, oil majors, and wind turbine service companies.
The role requires applying and interpreting DNV rules and international standards competently and safely, maintaining compliance and safety standards. The position demands self-discipline and a strong safety mindset to adapt to changing conditions.
Candidates should have the necessary technical background and experience to start work after orientation and training. Once qualified, you will work autonomously at client assets and locations, supported by a network of surveyors and DNV’s technical helpdesk. Remote technical meetings will support surveyors working on locations.
Responsibilities include:
1. Inspect and classify ships for compliance with DNV Rules, statutory requirements, and international standards, including structural and equipment inspections, testing, procedure audits, and documentation review.
2. Commit to environmental protection and energy efficiency.
3. Conduct activities safely, ensuring own safety and that of others.
4. Report survey activities using DNV’s software and Microsoft Office tools.
5. Liaise with ship and unit crew and management to facilitate surveys.
6. Maintain confidentiality of customer information.
7. Maintain and develop own competence within DNV’s framework.
8. Contribute to service delivery improvements by providing feedback.
9. Provide assertive advice and guidance to customers and colleagues.
10. Manage time effectively to meet survey demands.
11. Perform surveys onboard various floating offshore units and ships, a role demanding high responsibility.

Minimum requirements include:
* Master's degree in Engineering (Naval Architecture, Maritime, Electrical, Mechanical) or a Certificate of Competency (Master Mariner or Engineer Class I - Motor).
* Physical ability to perform job functions such as climbing ladders and conducting inspections.
* Flexibility to work offshore and outside regular hours.
