How will you make an impact in this role?
Directly reporting to the Controllership Manager, this position will help ensure the accuracy and integrity of the company financial statements and the control environment within the EMEA AMEX Group structure from the Madrid office, focusing on American Express de España (AEDE) and Amex Asesores de Seguros (AAS). You will lead analytics-driven projects within the team in close collaboration with the Central Automation team and other markets. Madrid currently serves as the Amex European hub for card issuer and acquiring business activities. This role will be key for supporting new Finance initiatives for the company.
Key responsibilities
* USGAAP month-end close procedures and documentation to ensure accuracy and integrity for the Spanish entities Profit & Loss accounts and Balance Sheets.
* Identify unusual trends and entries within local ledgers, plan remediation actions and evaluate solutions with different lines of business.
* Support the local statutory financial statements preparation which consolidates the EMEA region.
* Support financial reporting to Bank of Spain.
* Deeply assess IFRS implications for key business transactions.
* Support legal entity reporting team and liaise with external auditors to support completion of statutory financial statements and the audit process.
* Prepare legal entity forecasts, projections, and impairment tests.
* Ensure adequate controls are set to identify potential weaknesses and avoid material financial errors.
* Provide financial advisory to local and international stakeholders regarding specific business transactions and new deal setups.
* Monitor intercompany transactions and ensure strict governance and compliance with the existing Transfer Pricing policy.
* Collaborate with Tax team and local financial business planners.
* Review Management to legal entity P&L reconciliation.
* Drive team financial automation and collaborate with Central Automation for new initiatives.
* Collaborate with Bank of Spain regulatory and reporting requirements.
Minimum qualifications
* Good interpersonal skills and a team-oriented person.
* Strong financial analytical and problem-solving skills.
* Strong technical accounting background, experience in accounting, statutory audits, reporting and planning (4-5 years in a similar role).
* Advanced knowledge of IFRS, US GAAP and PGC Spanish GAAP accounting principles.
* Fluency in English and Spanish with strong verbal and written communication skills in both languages.
* High proficiency in MS-Office (compulsory experience in Excel;
Essbase knowledge preferable).
* Ability to work and coordinate with different teams (local and international) across regions and time zones.
* Adaptability to changes and ownership of new processes with a proactive approach.
* Collaborative mindset for engagement and development within finance.
* Ability to manage workloads, prioritize tasks, and meet strict deadlines.
* ERP knowledge preferable (Oracle, HFM, Power BI, Lumi AI or other analytics).
Preferred qualifications
* A Masters Degree is a plus.
* Advanced finance certifications can be advantageous.
