We are currently seeking a Legal Counsel with a proven record of customer service and a practical, problem-solving approach to providing commercial legal services in a technology-enabled, data-driven corporate, legal department.
This opportunity is with Thomson Reuters based in Madrid. The role sits within the Customers & Commercial team of the Thomson Reuters General Counsel Office, a highly collaborative team focused on enabling business growth and mitigating risk for the customer-centric commercial group. To be successful in this role you should have the experience and capability to handle a broad range of legal and compliance matters.
**About the Role**
In this opportunity as Legal Counsel, you will have:
- Experience with commercial contracting in a sales organization and a desire to build a legal career within a large corporate setting.
- Review, draft, and negotiate a wide range of European customer facing and partner agreements, primarily complex software (including SaaS) and information licensing agreements, re-distribution, reseller, referral, hosting, content acquisition, consulting and professional services agreements, non-disclosure agreements and other commercial agreements relating to sales of Thomson Reuters products and services.
- Excellent technical legal knowledge in contract and commercial law, particularly with SaaS products and solutions, including Gen AI products and solutions
- Excellent negotiation and drafting skills.
- Excellent written/verbal communication skills. Ability to positively influence behavior of multiple stakeholders.
- The ability to think strategically and creatively, to identify and resolve legal issues
- Experience and interest in providing strategic legal advice to business leaders and partnering with multiple stakeholders to drive strategy and growth.
- Excellent communication, organization, and analytical skills, and an aptitude for problem-solving
- Experience and/or interest in using AI tools and other legal technology.
- Ability to think strategically and creatively, to identify and resolve legal issues; desire and ability to quickly learn about Thomson Reuters’ products and services, and its internal processes and organizational structure.
**About You**
You’re a fit for the role of Legal Counsel if your background includes:
- 3-5 years post qualification experience in private practice and/or as in-house legal counsel advising on customers rather than procurement
- Experience and knowledge of German and/or French and other European jurisdiction software contracting with the ability to negotiate contracts in any/some of these languages.
- Authorised to practise law in Spain
- Excellent technical legal knowledge in contract and commercial law, particularly with SaaS products and solutions.
- Excellent negotiation and drafting skills.
- Excellent written/verbal English language communication skills.
- Ability to think strategically and creatively, to identify and resolve legal issues.
- negotiating and drafting clauses & agreements relating to data processing, data protection and cybersecurity
- with GDPR, data transfers and data sharing; knowledge of US privacy laws would also be an advantage
