Overview
Packaging Engineer, Fragrance & Beauty, Global Ops at Givaudan. This role involves managing all technical aspects of the packaging portfolio globally, driving optimization of primary and secondary packaging materials with the Global team, and supporting standardization of packaging and processes, materials and equipment validation, cost-saving activities, supplier development with IM&S, and sustainability integration in projects. The role also ensures packaging compliance with legal requirements in traded regions.
Location options: Ashford (UK) or Sant Celoni (Spain). Reports to the Head of Manufacturing Excellence, Global Operations F&B.
Responsibilities
* Be the primary contact for the region/division on packaging activities and act as lead expert.
* Coordinate packaging validation activities and collect packaging qualification documents with project teams.
* Drive packaging trials as per the validation plan and provide inputs for manufacturing/packaging cost and Capex plans.
* Network with Packaging Engineering, Process Engineering, Procurement, Safety, Quality and Supply Chain teams.
* Support regional teams in evaluating and selecting packaging vendors and periodically conduct vendor reviews.
* Lead packaging projects for the region/division and implement packaging processes, best practices and guidelines as agreed with the Global Packaging Team.
* Be responsible for Inbound and Outbound Packaging processes and improvements.
* Support overall Manufacturing process excellence in addition to packaging-related processes such as Packing & Filling, Material Handling, Storage and Transportation.
Safety and Quality Management
* Address and report regulatory exposures (Dangerous Goods, Food Contact Materials, etc.) and ensure packaging materials meet safety and quality standards considering legal and country requirements.
* Provide support to Operations and Quality teams on packaging material issues to determine best-fit resolutions and manage customer issues for packaging.
* Resolve packaging and labeling issues and ensure data quality of packaging materials in the system and in the global packaging repository.
Continuous Improvement
* Inspire and support developing innovative packaging solutions for new product categories (e.g., integrated solutions).
* Support the implementation of alternative packaging options and new materials aligned with Plastic Circularity targets for 2030.
* Adopt a customer-first approach to Packaging development.
* Identify regional packaging optimization projects.
Qualifications
* Preferably Master’s degree in packaging technology or relevant packaging engineering experience.
* More than 5 years of operational or R&D experience in a packaging role.
* Experience in packaging in a B2B industry with food ingredients or related industry; international exposure.
* Expertise in Safety & Food Safety regulation; exposure to Dangerous Goods transportation norms.
* Experience working in a matrix organization and proficiency in English; additional languages are a plus.
* Knowledge about Packaging for Food content (Oral Care, Food Compliance) and cosmetics (Active Beauty, Liquid Compounding).
