Overview
Lecturer/Senior Lecturer - Education Focused - Chemistry at UNSW. This Education Focused (EF) role enables academics to specialise in education and devote time to delivering high-quality teaching and to pursue initiatives that enhance the educational experience for students. The role is continuing, full-time (35 hours per week), at Level B or Level C with salary ranges outlined in the advertisement, plus 17% superannuation and annual leave loading. The School of Chemistry is internationally recognised for its excellence in research and teaching.
Responsibilities
* Demonstrate and continuously develop a well-defined teaching philosophy that inspires student learning.
* Conduct classes, assess student learning achievements, and support students in postgraduate and undergraduate courses in line with UNSW policy.
* Design and develop learning activities and resources, and assessment and feedback using a range of suitable approaches and learning environments.
* Initiate the development of experimental approaches to teaching and learning with the support of more senior academics.
* Modify and develop curricula to align with the University calendar changes.
* Support learning progression for individuals and cohorts to achieve positive learning and employability outcomes.
* Manage course administration as Course Authority, including academic quality assurance.
* Maintain professional development in pedagogy, disciplinary knowledge, and relevant professional accreditation requirements (where relevant).
* Contribute to School meetings and committees as required and align with the Code of Conduct and Values.
* Cooperate with health and safety policies to protect the health and safety of self and others.
Level B Specific Responsibilities
* Demonstrate and develop teaching philosophy;
design and deliver undergraduate and/or postgraduate teaching and learning activities;
assess and provide feedback.
* Contribute to curriculum design and delivery in line with UNSW policies and strategic priorities.
Level C Specific Responsibilities
* Lead the design and development of experimental approaches to teaching and learning;
share innovations with colleagues.
* Maintain and develop links within the discipline industry and profession;
pursue internal education funding opportunities.
* Engage with UNSW’s EF community to drive educational excellence across the university.
* Mentor staff;
contribute to teaching strategies and resources;
foster an inclusive culture of excellence in learning and teaching.
* Identify, assess, and manage health and safety risks within your area of responsibility.
About The Successful Applicant (Selection Criteria)
LEVEL B To be successful you will have:
* A PhD in a related discipline, and/or relevant work experience.
* Active engagement with discipline knowledge and professional development.
* Demonstrated experience in teaching and learning design, curriculum development and delivery at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels.
* Experience using and/or designing with educational technologies and online delivery methods.
* Evidence of teaching effectiveness and a passion for educational excellence.
* Desireable experience with industry or work-integrated learning.
* Background and interest in undergraduate laboratory programmes management and development.
* Strong interpersonal and organizational skills;
commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.
* Understanding and alignment with UNSW’s aims, objectives and values, and relevant policies.
* Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to relevant training.
LEVEL C In addition to the above:
* Experience in implementing educational technologies and online delivery methods;
ability to lead improvements in teaching practice.
* Evidence of fostering teaching effectiveness and leading inclusive excellence in learning and teaching.
* Demonstrated success in curriculum development and securing funding for learning and teaching initiatives.
