Overview
Finance Accountant, Level 1 (Provisional) - Business Operations at LaGuardia Community College - Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP).
Responsibilities
* Performs professional work in accounting or auditing in a higher education setting, coordinates accounting activities, and may supervise employees engaged in accounting activities.
* Maintain general and special books of accounts, post accounting entries, prepare trial balances and bank reconciliations, establish and maintain codes for funds and reserves, allocate costs and charges, and classify revenues and expenditures.
* Assist in entry-level professional tasks under supervision, including preparing financial statements and reports, and supporting audits and financial analyses as needed.
* Process cash disbursements, review requisitions, process purchase orders, and assist with monthly close and related ad-hoc reports as required.
Assignment Levels
* There are five Assignment Levels for this position (1, 1-A, 2, 3, 4). This specification describes typical assignments for this position; related duties may be assigned as needed. Some levels have specific prerequisites (e.g., Level 1-a is for College Accountants with five years of full-time service who have not progressed to Levels 2–4).
Minimum Qualifications
* Baccalaureate degree in accounting or a related field, including at least 18 college credits in accounting and at least 6 credits in data processing, computer science, banking, economics, statistics, or similar courses.
* Demonstrated English language proficiency (speaking, reading, writing, and comprehension).
* Full-time work is considered 35 hours per week; part-time experience may be prorated per policy. Specific level requirements vary by assignment.
Preferred Qualifications
* Baccalaureate degree in accounting.
* Proficiency with Microsoft Office Excel.
Responsibilities for the Foundation (Sample)
* Process cash disbursement transactions in the Financial Edge Accounts Payable module; ensure expenses reflect correctly in the general ledger.
* Review requisitions, process purchase orders, and assist with journal entries for monthly closes.
* Liaise with the Development department to review budgets and monitor spending trends; assist with ad-hoc reports and audit schedules.
Compensation
* New Hire Salary: $51,240
* Incumbent Salary: $57,901
* Note: Salary reflects a 13% salary suppression in effect for the first 24 months of employment.
