Job Description: Senior Data Governance Engineer Overview
You will be responsible for scaling, automating, and optimizing HBX data governance policies and processes throughout the data lifecycle. This role plays a key part in executing the Data Governance Roadmap and establishing data quality foundations by developing technical solutions such as:
* Data Governance & Management policies as code
* Automatic Data Observability and Quality metrics
* Metadata Management & Data Catalogue
* Automation of Data Policies, Procedures, and Security controls
Responsibilities
Reporting to the Head of Data Governance Office, your responsibilities include:
* Design and implement automated Data Governance policies, detecting bad practices and preventing data quality issues across data layers and lifecycle stages.
* Develop automated Data Management policies, procedures, and controls (policy as code) to prevent data misuse.
* Create automated Data Quality validation, metrics, and controls.
* Design automated Data Observability alerts and workflows.
* Coordinate with Data Governance Enterprise Architect to design optimal data architecture and infrastructure using SQL, Python, and AWS Big Data technologies.
* Build or deploy Data Governance tools to support Data Analysts and Data Scientists in enhancing product innovation.
Skills and Qualifications Education
* Degree in Computer & Information Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or related fields.
* Master’s degree in BI & Data Analytics or Big Data preferred.
Experience
* Proficient in Python and SQL with experience in enterprise applications and ML.
* Experience in Data Security management, data systems automation, and data quality analysis.
Technical Skills
* Experience with Snowflake or similar cloud data warehouse platforms.
* Proficiency in SQL, Python, REST API, and ETL tools like Airflow.
* Knowledge of Data Governance platforms such as Collibra, Infosphere, or similar.
* Familiarity with data visualization tools like Tableau.
* Experience with documentation tools like Atlassian Confluence.
Soft Skills
* Excellent communication and project management skills (Agile, Scrum, Kanban).
* Proficiency in English and Spanish.
* Strategic thinking, results-driven, and data literacy skills.
Day-to-Day Activities
* Manage the HBX Data Platform Stack, including security, user roles, permissions, and policies.
* Design and implement automated data governance policies and controls to prevent bad practices.
* Develop detective controls and alerts across the organization’s tools and processes.
* Ensure data connectivity via API to support governance and consistency.
* Implement data security policies complying with GDPR and other regulations.
* Support data lifecycle management in line with data retention policies.
