Overview
Constellations Satellite Systems Engineer position in Madrid (Getafe) with Airbus Defence & Space. The successful applicant will join the EOS Chief Engineering Department in Spain and work on small- and mid-sized satellite constellation development, with emphasis on industrialization, design-to-cost and design-to-manufacturing. The focus is on development of ISR constellations for national and European customers. You will be part of a multi-disciplinary systems engineering team contributing to on-cost, on-time and on-quality product delivery.
Responsibilities
* Act as satellite chief engineer, lead the engineering team in the design, development, and testing of satellite systems, ensuring adherence to project requirements and industry standards.
* Establish constellation concepts in response to customer requirements, deriving constellation system, satellite, platform and payload requirements.
* Establish Concepts of Operations meeting stakeholders expectations.
* Define the overall development schedule of satellite systems, focusing on technology maturation processes and managing internal/external dependencies.
* Drive adaptation of existing satellite product lines to satisfy customer requirements while enabling mid-scale industrialization of the satellite concept.
* Define the satellite product breakdown structure and identify industrial partners for development.
* Maintain the overall engineering schedule for the satellite system, aligned with development logic.
* Ensure execution of engineering activities in satellite system development and implementation.
* Establish end-to-end performance budgets and ensure flow-down of requirements to platform, payload, subsystems and equipment; background in optical performance and/or AOCS/pointing performance is desirable.
* Maintain end-to-end verification budgets, including bottom-up verification processes.
* Drive verification and validation activities throughout the satellite lifecycle, from concept to on-orbit operation.
* Lead or contribute to program milestones and reviews.
Additional Responsibilities
* Deployment of novel engineering methods, processes and tools (e.g., MBSE, multi-disciplinary analyses, concurrent design engineering).
* Digitalisation of design, development and manufacturing processes (e.g., DDMS) and their implementation across involved disciplines.
Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
* Proven experience in:
o Systems engineering applied to satellites
o Systems engineering processes, methods and tools
o Mission analysis, constellation deployment strategies, multi-orbit analyses (LEO, VLEO, up to planetary transfers)
o ECSS Standards
o Satellite functional and AOCS/GNC subsystems
o Space systems verification and validation
o CONOPS definition and derivation of requirements
o Coordination of program milestones and reviews
o Schedule, risk and cost control
* Strong background in optical performance and/or AOCS/pointing performance, and budgeting
* Deep knowledge of space systems development processes, verification and validation, including industrial implications
* Experience in developing and executing functional validation tests on platform and spacecraft level
* Excellent leadership and communication skills; ability to coordinate with multidisciplinary teams
* Knowledge of industry standards and best practices for satellite development and testing (ECSS, MIL-STD, CCSDS)
* Languages: Spanish, English; French, Italian and German desirable
