About the Role
The Director of Policy & Governance for Cyclical Economy will lead AVASK's initiatives in the Cyclical Economy, focusing on policy development, governance, and their commercial implications. The role emphasizes areas such as Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE), Batteries, and Single Use Plastics (SUPs).
Responsibilities
1. Develop and implement a global strategy for EPR, WEEE, Batteries, and SUPs that supports organizational growth.
2. Engage with government agencies, industry groups, and NGOs to influence and shape policies related to the Cyclical Economy.
3. Advise senior management and the board on policy and compliance matters concerning EPR, WEEE, Batteries, SUPs, and related initiatives.
4. Ensure compliance across multiple jurisdictions, managing filings and deadlines.
5. Oversee the development of compliance programs related to packaging, waste collection, recycling, and reuse.
6. Establish controls and procedures to mitigate risks and ensure regulatory alignment.
7. Monitor KPIs to evaluate the effectiveness of initiatives and identify improvement opportunities.
8. Innovate in EPR processes, recycling systems, and resource optimization for better environmental outcomes.
9. Conduct training to educate staff and partners on compliance requirements and best practices.
10. Stay updated on legislative changes and adapt policies accordingly.
11. Collaborate internally and externally to embed Cyclical Economy principles into sustainability strategies.
12. Prepare reports on compliance and performance metrics for leadership and stakeholders.
13. Promote best practices in resource efficiency, waste reduction, and circular product design.
Qualifications
Educational Background: Bachelor's in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Mechanical Engineering, or related; Master's preferred.
Professional Experience: 8-10 years in environmental compliance or sustainability, with 5+ years in leadership roles. Expertise in EPR, WEEE, Batteries, SUPs, and Circular Economy initiatives. Experience in compliance programs related to packaging, WEEE, batteries, and SUP reduction. Certifications in environmental management are a plus.
