Job Description: The i2CAT Foundation (Barcelona) is opening a position to advance in the research and innovation field of real-time distributed video services, involving immersive media formats like volumetric video.
The candidate will join the Media & Internet Area (MIA) of i2CAT, which comprises over 18 experienced researchers and engineers specializing in distributed and interactive multimedia systems and media processing. The team is involved in relevant R&I projects with European and national ecosystems, collaborating closely with academia and industry.
This area seeks a highly skilled Research Engineer with experience in volumetric video streaming to join our development team. The ideal candidate should have experience with video codecs, low-level programming (C/C++), and preferably GPGPU technologies such as CUDA or OpenCL. Responsibilities include maintaining and enhancing the volumetric video compression pipeline.
The role involves engaging in cutting-edge research, innovation, and development tasks, contributing to high-impact scientific publications, technology transfer, and the development of advanced software and services like Volumetric Video Compression and Neural Radiance Fields/ Gaussian Splatting. The candidate will develop and maintain the volumetric video pipeline and contribute to ongoing projects such as Didymos, XRECO, and PRESENCE.

Required qualifications include:
At least 2 years of professional development experience, preferably in teams of 5+
Proficiency in C++
Experience with video codecs like H.264, H.265, H.266, and volumetric point cloud compression methods such as VPCC or Draco
Hands-on experience in graphics, XR, VR, or AR technologies
Strong programming skills, knowledge of industry best practices, and software architecture design
Experience with agile and Scrum methodologies
Good teamwork and interpersonal skills
Knowledge of C# and parallel programming models (OpenMP, MPI, Multicore) is a plus
