You as a Mechanical Engineer will be accountable for mechanical engineering research, planning, design and development of mechanical products and systems such as instruments, controls, robots, engines, machines and mechanical, thermal hydraulic or heat transfer systems for production, transmission, measurement, and use of energy. You will apply research to the planning, design, development, and testing of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, engines, and/or machines.
At Alcoa, you are an essential part of our purpose to turn raw potential into real progress. This is an opportunity for you to bring your wealth of experience to the team and help shape the future of sustainability with world changing innovations and low carbon technologies. You have the power to shape things to make them better.
Responsibilities
* Risk and priority management Identify long term opportunities for improvement through a focus on equipment reliability. Identify and prioritize top risks related to major production or equipment criticality, current capability vs bottlenecks, gaps, losses and high cost contributors to the area.
* Risk and priority management continued Use data collected by Operations to help establish top priorities and to identify and target equipment bad actors.
* Risk and priority management continued Analyze equipment performance data and equipment history to identify repetitive and/or costly failure modes.
* Strategy Development Develop Asset Management Strategies EMS with a proactive approach aimed at minimizing total cost, including downtime and capital related costs.
* Provide key inputs as part of the Operational and Maintenance Strategy OMS process
* Provide detailed cost/benefit analysis to support recommended equipment maintenance strategies.
* Link outputs of all activities and ongoing performance reviews through asset strategies, reviewing and improving regularly with a continual improvement mindset.
* Train operators in the why and how on operator prevention and condition monitoring tasks.
* Results review Track and evaluate loss and performance data on agreed priority assets and systems to proactively initiate actions and evaluate the effectiveness of ongoing improvement efforts.
* Communicate losses and performance to both process and technical departments.
* Track, monitor and record the effect of completed improvement actions, including dollars saved where practical, and communicate the result.
* Define equipment reliability performance requirements and metrics, and required equipment or process availability.
* Monitor equipment health and audit compliance to the equipment management strategies and relevant standards.
* Failure Mode and Reliability Engineering Analysis Identify and develop strategies to eliminate repetitive and major failures.
* Actively support the registration of value creation in the DI system.
* Apply reliability based tools and processes to investigate root causes (RCA) of equipment failures and provide recommendations for elimination, ensuring corrective actions are linked back to equipment strategies.
* Lead and facilitate failure modes, effects and criticality analysis FMECA for prioritized equipment, identifying specific failure modes and corrective actions.
* To fulfill the responsibility of analysis the reliability engineer shall apply data analysis techniques and statistics and may include statistical process control, reliability modeling and prediction, fault tree analysis and Weibull analysis.
* Modification and capital projects Initiates authors in business case development and current condition identification for equipment reliability, maintenance improvement and new equipment capital projects.
* Participates in capital and maintenance project teams as an asset owner representative responsible for ensuring the application of reliability principles is incorporated into appropriate capital projects, providing total life cycle cost LCC analysis.
