Position Summary

The University Coach (Supervisor) is a faculty member of the Literacy, Early, Bilingual, and Special Education Department (LEBSE) who oversees Teacher Credential Candidates in the PK‑3 Early Childhood Education (ECE) Specialist Instruction Credential Program. The coach serves as a liaison between the university, cooperating schools, Mentor Teachers, and the Program Coordinator, communicating needs and providing professional support throughout the semester.

Responsibilities

Meet with Mentor Teachers for orientation (first two weeks or after student teaching) to discuss roles and co‑teaching expectations.

Conduct regular school site visits to meet with Teacher Candidates, Mentor Teachers, and administrators, holding informal discussions and maintaining communication via phone, webinar, or online community.

Complete a minimum of six formal lesson observations (using the California Teacher Performance Expectations rubric, at least four in‑person) and debrief candidates after each observation to guide reflection.

Maintain ongoing communication with Teacher Candidates and Mentor Teachers to monitor progress and provide continuous feedback on lesson plans and reflections.

Use coaching strategies to help candidates develop self‑assessment, reflection, and goal‑setting skills.

Document and address areas for improvement; contact the Program Coordinator if improvement is not evident and evaluate the need for a Statement of Concern.

Support candidates with basic needs and mental health concerns, referring to campus resources when appropriate.

Evaluate the Teacher Candidate’s Site Visitation Project or Teaching Sample Project, debrief results, and provide remediation if needed.

Conduct Mid‑Semester and Final‑Semester Evaluations in triad meetings (candidate, Mentor Teacher, and University Coach) at least twice per semester.

Assist candidates in meeting Teaching Performance Expectations (TPE’s) and assign a CR/NC grade through PeopleSoft/MyFresnoState.

Attend mandatory program events, meetings, and professional developments; complete FAST training, calibration, and scoring with reliability as a rater.

Submit all required documentation digitally through TK20.

Qualifications
Education and Credentials

A current Multiple Subject teaching credential plus 24 ECE units or a PK‑3 credential.

A Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education or a closely related field.

Eligibility to work in the United States (no university sponsorship).

For Bilingual Authorization coaching, a Bilingual Authorization or BCLAD and fluency in Spanish or Hmong.

Experience

Minimum of three years teaching in PK‑3 settings with a curriculum aligned to California’s Preschool Learning Foundations and Curriculum Frameworks.

Demonstrated commitment to working collaboratively with diverse faculty, staff, and students.

Compensation
Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience, within the CSU Salary Schedule (Class Code 2358). For a Master’s degree holder, the range is $5,507–$6,677 per month for a full‑time load (15 WTUs), with adjustments based on the number of WTUs assigned.
