The Barcelona Supercomputing Center - Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC-CNS) is the leading supercomputing center in Spain. It houses MareNostrum, one of the most powerful supercomputers in Europe, and is the hosting entity for EuroHPC JU. BSC is focused on researching, developing and managing information technologies to facilitate scientific progress and combines HPC service provision with R&D in computer and computational science across multiple domains.
Context And Mission
The Technologies for Biomedical Research Lab (TechBioLab) within the Life Sciences Department of the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) enables research activities in the Life Sciences. Activities include developing infrastructures for centralized and federated analysis and learning, software components for bioinformatics, data management in healthcare, benchmarking of research software, and enabling analysis of sensitive data in federated settings. The INB (Spanish National Bioinformatics Institute) coordinates ELIXIR-ES activities and related national initiatives such as TransBioNet.
Key Duties
* Find ways to efficiently present results:
visualization graphs, exploratory web interfaces, etc.
* Contribute to the development of front-end platforms and APIs for current research projects in the Life Sciences department, in close collaboration with back-end engineers.
* Contribute to ensuring appropriate user experience at the developed front-ends.
* Interact with cloud providers and HPC resources to distribute workloads.
* Work with other INB/ELIXIR-ES units and ELIXIR nodes to implement standards and methodologies.
* Contribute to ongoing projects in the INB/ELIXIR-ES units, including flagship projects like GDI and EUCAIM.
Requirements
Education
* Software Engineer Degree or equivalent Bioinformatics related degrees.
Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
* At least 1 year of professional experience in a similar role.
* Experience in cloud deployments.
* Experience with advanced software packaging procedures.
* Experience in software quality management.
* Experience working with Unix/Linux systems.
Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience
* Experience developing, generating and using software containers (e.G., Docker and Singularity).
* Experience in developing project technical specifications.
* Fluency in English, written and spoken. At least basic knowledge of Spanish.
Competences
* Ability to understand scientific literature and software documentation.
* Ability to communicate scientific results.

* The position will be located at BSC within the Life Sciences Department.

Recruitment process
The selection is conducted through a competitive examination system. The process consists of two phases:
Curriculum Analysis (40 points) and Interview (60 points). A minimum of 30/60 must be obtained in the interview to be eligible.
