We're hiring | Structural Design Engineer – Photovoltaics (Design + Construction)
MECASOLAR
Location: Tres Cantos, Madrid (HQ) or remote (Philippines)
At MECASOLAR, we continue to grow our engineering team to deliver utility-scale photovoltaic projects worldwide. We're looking for a Structural Design Engineer with a strong construction mindset to support the full project lifecycle — from conceptual design to commissioning.
About the role
You will be responsible for ensuring the technical feasibility and constructability of PV structures (trackers and fixed systems), combining structural design, geotechnical analysis, and on-site supervision.
Key responsibilities
* Structural calculation of tracker systems and fixed PV structures (cold-formed steel, bolted/welded joints, buckling, fatigue, vibrations)
* Foundations and geotechnics: design and verification (driven piles, predrill, helical piles, micropiles, footings), soil-structure interaction, and geotechnical campaign validation
* Application of loads and regulations (Eurocodes/EN, ASCE 7, NTC, local codes)
* Preparation of design documentation: calculation reports, drawings, BOMs, ITPs
* On-site supervision: pile driving, pull-out tests, QA/QC checks, non-conformities
* Risk monitoring, constructability analysis, and as-built closure
Requirements
* Degree in Civil Engineering / Structures / Geotechnics / Mechanics (or equivalent)
* 2–5 years of experience in metal structures and foundation design (PV projects are a plus)
* Software: CYPE 3D, Consteel, Ansys, Lpile, AutoCAD, SolidWorks or similar
* Knowledge of international codes and regulations (Europe, LATAM, Asia)
* Professional English (minimum B2)
* Availability for short trips to construction sites and suppliers
Nice to have
* Experience with solar trackers and fixed PV structures
* Strong background in soil mechanics and pile foundations
* Knowledge of cold-formed steel, corrosion criteria, and coatings (e.g. S350GD, ZM)
* Experience in QA/QC and pull-out testing on site
What we value
* Practical, construction-oriented mindset
* Strong analytical skills and technical decision-making
* Clear communication and cross-functional collaboration
* Proactivity in risk anticipation and cost–time–quality optimization
