Overview
Construction Project Manager, EMEA Construction (Substations) – based in Milan, Italy. Amazon's High Voltage (HV) infrastructure assets are industry-leading, delivering efficient, resilient electrical systems that power AWS data centers. The Construction Project Manager oversees and reviews all disciplines (civil, electrical, mechanical, controls, and architectural) and leads cross-functional delivery through the execution stage.
As part of a diverse, upbeat, and innovative team, you will tackle challenging problems in building HV infrastructure assets at scale and apply engineering judgment to construction projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Own construction project management and oversight of activities related to new substation and transmission line projects in Italy, including scope, timeline, and budget.
- Interface directly with construction general contractors during bidding, award, execution, and project closeout/punch list phases.
- Collaborate with general contractors and vendors to achieve efficient, high-quality project turnovers in line with electrical utility requirements.
- Lead negotiations with general contractors and evaluate bids/proposals with detail and accuracy.
- Create construction project scope and request for proposals.
- Review construction submittals and perform construction project quality control, including the creation of a commissioning plan and support for the commissioning process.
- Provide leadership within the group and across internal and external teams supporting the data center.
- Concurrently manage multiple projects and record/report key metrics to team members and senior management.
- Manage capital requests/financial analysis of construction work, including change orders, purchase orders, and invoicing.
- Drive troubleshooting and root-cause failure analysis for equipment or electrical failures.
- Negotiate easements/wayleaves with landowners and utilities where required.
- Engage in value engineering to reduce costs through innovative designs, technology, or construction methods without impacting quality or reliability.
- Travel to sites for leadership walkdowns, audits, inspections, start-up testing, and full commissioning; up to 40% travel within the EMEA region.

Basic Qualifications
- 7+ years of recent experience in construction management of large, complex projects involving large-scale mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) plants.
- Demonstrated understanding of electrical engineering principles including breaker coordination studies and switchgear sequence of operation.
- Demonstrated understanding of mechanical engineering principles for cooling systems.
- Demonstrated contractor and vendor management experience (request for proposals, bidding, change orders) associated with construction and project execution.
- Experience directly related to the design and construction of HV substations or large-scale mechanical and electrical plants.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with large-scale technical operations, mission-critical mechanical/electrical infrastructure, or large-scale compute farms.
- Experience dealing with location-specific electrical utility providers.
- Experience of risk and change management through procurement, delivery and handover of design and build projects.
- Experience of leading contract and commercial negotiations and administration of design and build projects.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Construction Management or an equivalent engineering science OR 4+ years of related construction management experience in lieu of a degree.
