Position Overview
As an R&D Packaging Engineer within the R&D Applications Team, you will drive packaging development projects focused on innovation, core range renovation, sustainability, and margin management for Old El Paso and Green Giant, enabling our business to succeed in the marketplace. You will leverage your technical expertise, influence, and project management skills, partnering with cross-functional teams and external partners to identify, develop, and implement packaging solutions for new and existing products.
Accountabilities
* Manage and lead multiple projects: create and execute technical plans, risk assessments, mitigation strategies, prototypes, manage timelines, and document work effectively.
* Collaborate with factory teams: organize and execute industrial trials, build trial reports, and communicate conclusions.
* Maintain packaging technical specifications: keep them current and accurate.
* Build relationships: work collaboratively with stakeholders across R&D, Marketing, Sourcing, Supply Chain, and external partners to deliver effective packaging solutions.
* Communicate progress: update business partners on project status, risks, and changes, influencing decisions with deep consumer, technical, and business insights.
* Lead collaboration: develop robust packaging pipelines aligned with consumer needs and business strategy across innovation, renovation, sustainability, and margin management.
* Network and leverage external expertise: connect with suppliers, packaging organizations, and startups to broaden perspectives and support initiatives.
* Stay informed: keep abreast of packaging technology, regulatory changes, and competitive activity to inform decision-making.
* Share knowledge: engage with General Mills' global packaging community to exchange insights and align on initiatives.
Skills & Experiences
* Bachelor's Degree in packaging, mechanical engineering, or a relevant engineering field.
* At least 4 years of experience in Packaging Development, Engineering, or Technology.
* Experience with food thermal packaging (tin, jar).
* Proven ability to lead packaging ideation, development, and commercialization with multiple stakeholders.
* Deep technical understanding of product, packaging, and equipment interactions; applying scientific and engineering principles.
* Knowledge of quality and regulatory standards.
* Creative design skills and structural packaging experience are a plus.
* Consumer-focused mindset, familiar with design thinking practices.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Strong analytical, problem-solving, and judgment abilities.
* Proficiency in English and French, both written and spoken.
