Tasks and Qualifications:
➡About the Role
As a QA Manager, you will take on a multi-faceted role that blends hands-on testing, strategic leadership, and people development. You will be instrumental in driving quality across our Agile Release Train (ART) while also acting as the dedicated QA for our Safety Analytics team and leading our QA chapter in Barcelona.
This position combines three key dimensions:
1. Individual Contributor (Safety Analytics Team) – Act as the team’s dedicated QA, ensuring the reliability, performance, and security of our flagship safety & energy features through test design, automation, and validation.
2. ART-Level QA Strategy Leadership – Define and own the quality strategy for the ART, in collaboration with the System Architect, setting standards, practices, and tooling to raise quality across all teams.
3. Chapter Lead (People Manager) – Lead and mentor the local QA team in Barcelona (4 direct reports), focusing on career development, training, and building a strong community of practice.
The exact balance between these responsibilities will be tailored to your profile and experience, but success in this role requires the ability to move seamlessly between execution, strategy, and leadership.
➡ Your Responsibilities
1. Hands-on QA
- Act as the dedicated QA engineer within the Safety Analytics team.
- Design, automate, and execute tests for safety & energy flagship features.
- Ensure product stability through exploratory, regression, performance, and security testing.
- Collaborate with developers and product owners to embed quality into every step of the development cycle.
- Own defect management, documentation, and continuous improvement for your team’s QA practices.
2. ART-Level QA Strategy Leadership
- Define and evolve the ART-wide QA strategy in alignment with the System Architect.
- Establish and enforce standards, practices, and tools across distributed teams.
- Drive test automation, CI/CD integration, and performance testing to increase delivery speed and reliability.
- Partner with Product Managers, Architects, and Developers to ensure quality is considered from concept to release.
- Continuously improve processes for defect prevention, traceability, and compliance.
3. Chapter Lead Responsibilities (Barcelona QA Team)
- Act as people manager for the local QA team (4 direct reports).
- Provide career development, coaching, and mentoring, supporting growth paths for junior and mid-level QAs.
- Lead recruitment, onboarding, and training of new QA engineers.
- Foster a QA Community of Practice, ensuring consistency of methods, tools, and standards across teams.
- Conduct performance reviews and feedback sessions, promoting a culture of quality and collaboration.
- Important: You do not own your team’s backlog or delivery — your focus is professional growth and excellence.
➡Core Competencies
- Strategic QA Leadership – Experience defining and implementing QA strategies across multiple teams or ARTs.
- Hands-On Testing Expertise – Strong background in functional, regression, performance, and security testing.
- Test Automation & CI/CD – Proficiency with frameworks (e.g., Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, Appium) and integration into CI/CD pipelines.
- Collaboration & Influence – Ability to work cross-functionally with architects, product owners, and developers.
- People Leadership – Skilled at mentoring, career coaching, and building cohesive QA communities.
- Continuous Improvement Mindset – Passion for efficiency, innovation, and building a quality-first culture.
➡Experience & Qualifications
- Work Experience: 7–10+ years in software QA, with a mix of hands-on testing and strategic leadership.
- Leadership: Previous experience as a QA Lead, Chapter Lead, or Manager with direct reports.
- Agile/SAFe Experience: Practical knowledge of Agile environments; SAFe experience is a strong plus.
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
- Certifications: ISTQB or equivalent certifications are desirable.
- Language: Fluent English and Spanish are required (working language).
