Prisoners Defenders International is a non-profit, non-governmental organization headquartered in Madrid, Spain, dedicated to human rights reporting, legal action, and pro-democracy advocacy. Collaborating with major global institutions like the European Parliament, United States Congress, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, IACHR, and many other institutions and governments, the organization produces comprehensive reports, engages in direct legal actions, and defends victims of human rights violations, including political prisoners and prisoners of conscience. Their work spans areas such as human rights defenders, fundamental freedoms, labor, culture, children’s rights, crimes against humanity, and others. With international branches, Prisoners Defenders also conducts country situation studies and creates scientific-technical reports that substantiate human rights concerns.
Role Description
This is a contract-based, remote role for a Director/a Jurídico/a Interim. The role involves overseeing and managing legal initiatives, including the preparation and submission of legal documentation, drafting and managing lawsuits, and conducting legal analysis in cases related to human rights and international law. Additional responsibilities include collaborating with international organizations, managing legal advocacy efforts, leading a team of legal professionals, and ensuring compliance with the organization's mission and objectives.
Qualifications
Strong experience in Legal Analysis, Legal Writing, and Legal Documentation preparation
Expertise in Criminal Law, addional knowledge on International Human Rights Law, including handling cases of crimes against humanity and cases in various fields of rights advocacy (e.g., HR defenders, labor, cultural, children’s, religious rights)
Proficiency in managing and drafting lawsuits, xcskxlj complaints, and criminal complaints
Experience in conducting legal research, preparing scientific-technical reports, and coordinating with international human rights organizations
Excellent leadership, project management, and communication abilities to lead legal initiatives and teams effectively
Advanced knowledge of Spanish and English; additional languages are a plus
Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Law, Juris Doctor (JD), LL.M., or equivalent qualification in criminal law. Specialization in human rights law is an advantage
Proven track record in advocacy, litigation, or non-profit legal action
