The Role
We are looking for a Senior Consultant – Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) to join our Consulting team, contributing to the management and technical leadership of advisory projects related to renewable energy and energy storage systems in Spain and internationally, with a strong focus on the Middle East and Caspian regions.
The position is ideal for a proactive, self-motivated professional with solid technical expertise in BESS design, energy modelling, and project commercial fundamentals. The selected candidate will support clients throughout all project lifecycle phases, from development to construction and operation, providing independent engineering and technical advisory services.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead technical advisory and consulting projects in the renewable energy and BESS sectors.
* Perform energy storage resource assessments and BESS performance modelling.
* Conduct technical due diligence, independent engineering (IE) services, and design validation for BESS and hybrid renewable projects.
* Review and optimize BESS plant configurations in alignment with client requirements and grid stability objectives.
* Coordinate internal teams and external subcontractors, ensuring high-quality deliverables.
* Maintain direct communication with clients, lenders, developers, and stakeholders.
* Interpret technical aspects of commercial agreements (interconnection, EPC, supply, O&M).
* Identify technical and commercial risks and opportunities related to project design and contracts.
* Evaluate BESS technologies (lithium-ion, lead-acid, flow batteries, thermal storage and emerging solutions) and performance metrics such as degradation, lifecycle, and efficiency.
* Assess grid integration requirements and regulatory frameworks for energy storage systems.
* Prepare technical reports, energy yield assessments, and project documentation.
* Support business development activities, including proposal preparation and client presentations.
* Participate in industry conferences and maintain strong relationships with clients and market stakeholders.
* Travel to project sites in Spain and internationally when required.
Requirements
* Minimum 6–8 years of experience in renewable energy consulting or energy storage projects.
* Proven experience in large-scale renewable projects (50 MW+), particularly BESS.
* Strong knowledge of energy storage engineering, renewable generation technologies, and electrical infrastructure.
* Experience with technical specifications for batteries, inverters, PCS, BOS, and EMS systems.
* Understanding of grid interconnection requirements and regulatory frameworks for BESS.
* Demonstrated project management skills and ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams.
* Previous experience working in the Middle East region is highly valued.
* Availability to travel internationally (up to 25%).
Education
* Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering (preferably Electrical / Power Engineering).
* Master’s degree in Renewable Energy (valuable).
* English level C1 or higher.
* Additional languages are a plus.
