Amazon is seeking an experienced Risk and Controllership Specialist to join the Tax Engine Business (TEB) team based in Barcelona. TEB provides an end-to-end global transaction tax calculation solution, including sales and use taxes, VAT, GST, and other consumption taxes, to Amazon and numerous other merchants on Amazon marketplaces and e-commerce platforms. The team is part of The Global Tax Calculation Services Program.
The successful candidate will be part of the internal PCTS (Product Classification and Taxonomy Services) Compliance and Controllership team under TEB. This role involves ensuring robust internal processes, effective controls, and presenting findings and actions to department leadership to explain risks and exposures.
The role also includes responding to tax authority queries and audits, performing root cause analysis using extensive data sources, and communicating internal processes to both external and internal stakeholders. The candidate must be able to explain audit and risk management concepts to colleagues across tax and non-tax functions and share best practices practically.
This position involves participating in cross-functional projects with global tax colleagues, focusing on tax classification, risk management, SOx controls, and supporting new project launches with necessary controls. The role is primarily office-based with some flexibility for remote work under Amazon's current policies.
Key Responsibilities
* Perform internal audits of departmental processes following audit best practices.
* Identify process and control weaknesses and propose viable solutions.
* Report findings and recommended actions to leadership.
* Model and forecast financial impacts of risks.
* Respond to compliance and audit requests from internal and external stakeholders.
* Collaborate with partner teams for internal reviews and risk assessments.
* Work with product classification teams to ensure accurate taxation.
* Conduct root cause analyses and implement solutions proactively.
* Coordinate with stakeholders on strategic initiatives related to risk and controls.
* Drive process improvements and cost savings initiatives with Operations.
* Monitor global indirect tax legislation and compliance requirements to identify opportunities.

Basic Qualifications
* Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
* Experience in a large public accounting firm or multinational corporate tax department
* Knowledge of financial accounting and indirect tax
* Data-driven decision-making and risk analysis skills
* Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience with transaction tax software (e.g., Vertex)
* CPA or Internal Audit Certification
* Intermediate to advanced SQL skills
* Data analysis skills for trend identification and action planning
* Experience with tax laws across jurisdictions
