AWS is introducing the inaugural European Sovereign Cloud (ESC). We search for experienced development engineering leaders to head operations and development teams that deliver high‑availability AWS services (EC2, S3, Dynamo, Lambda, Bedrock) exclusively for EU customers. Your role will drive the 2025 launch of ESC, working closely with integral teams and shaping AWS services and technology.

Key Responsibilities
\n
Oversee the launch of ESC in 2025 and collaborate with AWS global teams.
\n
Lead systems operations and development teams, emphasizing automation and engineering efficiency.
\n
Analyze system and software performance to identify improvement areas across availability, reliability, latency, performance, and efficiency.
\n
Foster cross‑department collaboration, strengthening relationships and streamlining processes.
\n
Coach and mentor teams, ensuring a skilled, invested workforce.
\n
Review key performance metrics to align efforts with business objectives.
\n
Drive escalation calls and manage on‑call responsibilities.
\n
Eligibility & Required Experience
\n
Fluency in written and spoken English.
\n
National of an EU member state and residing in the EU.
\n
Experience in development management and operations for large‑scale distributed systems.
\n
Proven hiring and talent management across multiple disciplines.
\n
Demonstrated software development or systems experience with a focus on high‑scale hiring.
\n
Knowledge of professional software engineering practices and life‑cycle management.
\n
Desired Qualifications

Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field.
\n
Strong fundamentals in networking, operating systems and distributed systems.
\n
Experience with deployment automation, monitoring, and AWS platform design patterns.
\n
Excellent written and verbal communication.
\n
Strong program and product management skills with ownership mindset.
\n
