Skilled Operative
Role type: Skilled Operative
The Role
Carry out tasks set by site supervisors and gangers to a high level of safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Understand all relevant risk and method statements
- Use best/safe practice on all tasks
- Conduct checks on equipment used
- Install drainage, lay concrete, kerbs, pavements, and carry out excavation, groundworks, digging trenches, loading and unloading materials
- Maintain a safe, tidy workplace
- Implement best practice procedures
- Maximise use of own working time
- Ensure signed up for all permits and briefings before commencing work
- Communicate concerns to site supervisor
- Report near‑miss incidents to site management
- Attend all site briefings, forums, and toolbox talks
- Deputise for conducting briefings and toolbox talks
Essential
- Experience in general civil works (earthworks, drainage, ducting, kerbing, and concreting)
- CSCS card
- Proficiency with CPCS forward tipping dumper, slinger signaller, ride‑on roller, 360 excavator, or telehandler
Desirable
- SSSTS/SMSTS certification
- ½ day environmental awareness course
- NRSWA qualification
