Job Purpose
We are seeking an experienced SAP Platform Architect to join our team in maintaining and further developing the SAP systems for the entire Straumann Group. This role is responsible for designing, developing, and supporting the global SAP technical landscape, including the migration to SAP S/4HANA and SAP RISE.
You will work closely with cross-functional teams responsible for SAP business applications (SAP ERP, SD/MM, FI/CO, PLM, HCM, BW, Fiori, etc.) as well as infrastructure, datacenter operations, and AWS cloud migration teams. The position combines deep SAP technical expertise with architectural thinking and will progressively evolve toward SAP platform and service management ownership.
Main Tasks and Responsibilities
• Act as SAP Platform Architect for the global SAP landscape, covering ECC, S/4HANA, SAP RISE, and related platforms
• Design and govern the target SAP technical architecture aligned with Straumann Group's cloud, security, and integration strategies
• Lead and contribute to the ECC to S/4HANA conversion, including system design decisions, technical readiness, and migration activities
• Support and shape the transition to SAP RISE, including hyperscaler integration, SAP-managed services, and shared responsibility models
• Provide expert-level guidance on SAP Basis topics, including system installations, upgrades, kernel/database changes, transport management, and performance tuning
• Collaborate closely with:
o SAP application teams (ERP, CRM, SD/MM, FI/CO, PLM, HCM, BW, Fiori)
o Infrastructure, datacenter, and AWS/cloud teams
o External partners and SAP
• Define and enforce technical standards, best practices, and governance for SAP platforms
• Drive platform modernization initiatives, including automation, monitoring, security hardening, and operational excellence
• Support the transition from traditional Basis operations toward a service-oriented SAP platform model, including:
o Vendor and service provider management
o SLA and KPI definition
o Incident, problem, and change management alignment
• Act as a trusted technical advisor for SAP-related strategic initiatives and roadmap planning
Education and Experience
• Bachelor's in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field
• 8+ years of experience in SAP Basis / SAP technical architecture roles within complex enterprise landscapes
• Strong hands-on experience with:
o SAP ECC and S/4HANA (conversion or greenfield projects)
o SAP RISE concepts and operating models
o SAP on-premise and cloud/hyperscaler environments (AWS preferred)
• Solid understanding of SAP technologies such as:
o HANA database
o SAP Fiori and UI technologies
o SAP Solution Manager / ALM tools
o SAP BTP
o SAP integration concepts
• Experience working with external service providers and system integrators
• Exposure to IT service management (ITIL) concepts and operational governance is a strong advantage
• SAP certifications (Basis, S/4HANA, RISE, Cloud, BTP or Architecture) are a plus
