Lecturer in Portuguese (Global and Area Studies)
The University of Hong Kong’s School of Modern Languages and Cultures is seeking a full‑time Lecturer in Portuguese (Global and Area Studies) (Ref: 533840) to commence on 1 July 2026, or as soon as possible thereafter, on a three‑year fixed‑term basis with potential renewal subject to performance and funding availability.
Responsibilities
* Teach Portuguese courses at various levels for non‑native speakers, including research‑based courses on Lusophone cultures and societies.
* Develop new curricula and design assessment materials.
* Engage in research activities and contribute to departmental scholarship.
* Participate in departmental administration and student advising.
Qualifications
* Relevant Ph.D. degree.
* Native or near‑native speaker of Portuguese with excellent English proficiency.
* Expertise in teaching Portuguese to non‑native speakers, including contemporary pedagogy and assessment, and familiarity with AI‑enabled teaching tools.
* Demonstrated ability to deliver high‑quality, research‑based courses.
Salary & Benefits
A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, together with contract‑end gratuity and a University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme at 15 % of basic salary.
