Systems Development interns work with technical leaders to refine technical direction, and then follow through with detailed review, designs, and truly innovative code. They are builders who are experienced in at least one scripting language, are familiar with networking concepts, and familiar with working in a Linux environment. They are the industry’s brightest engineers who innovate every day on behalf of our customers.
Amazon has a fast-paced environment where we “Work Hard, Have Fun, Make History.” On a typical day engineers might deep dive to root cause a customer issue, investigate why a metric is trending the wrong way, consult with the top engineers at Amazon, or discuss radical new approaches to automate operational issues.
About the team: Amazon has an opportunity for a System Development Engineer on a specialist Intelligent Cloud Hosting (ICON) team. This team hosts Amazon’s websites including global marketplaces and partner portals and consumer experiences such as Kindle, Alexa or Amazon Video. The ICON team delivers the HTML that delights our customers and ensures that underlying transactions are processed error-free. This includes payments, tax, contracts, returns, inventory, and notifications; and brand-new experiences that have never been done before. In short, we perform cloud infrastructure management at a very large scale. The ICON team is a diverse international group focused on operational quality, security, reducing cost, increasing availability and keeping the largest eCommerce infrastructure running. Offices are in Sydney, Seattle, New York, Dublin, Bangalore and Hyderabad.
We’re looking for a Systems Development Engineer who is inventive, understands operational excellence, and can work to scale.
Responsibilities
* Troubleshoot, debug, evaluate and resolve computer-identified alarms (Oncall), make feature enhancements, bug fixes, perform systems management, deploys and migrations and host management during office hours.
* Develop tools and automations to achieve human-free operations; modify software to leverage the overall system architecture.
* Create and update a strategic SRE toolkit built on AWS technology used across Amazon to deploy, monitor and operate the hundreds of thousands of services that power our highly distributed architecture. This includes orchestration, predictive analytics, monitoring, problem diagnosis and automated repair.
* Analyze SRE data and deploy configurations that intelligently manage how traffic flows through our highly distributed architecture to customers.
* Develop an understanding of the maintenance characteristics, runtime properties, and dependencies of the team’s infrastructure, including hardware platform, operating system, and build dependencies.
Basic Qualifications
* Are 18 years of age or older
* Current penultimate year student pursuing a Bachelor or higher degree (Graduating after Feb 2027)
* Able to commence internship from 7th December 2026 to mid February 2027
* Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Python, Ruby, Golang, Java, C++, C#, Rust
* Experience with Linux/Unix - Experience tools for automation (building, testing, releasing or monitoring)
Preferred Qualifications
* Documentation and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
* Familiarity with IP networking and troubleshooting.
* Shell scripting experience with Bash or other common Linux shell
* Experience with CI/CD pipelines build processes
* Experience with automating and simplifying team development, test, and operations processes
