Seeking a Hardware Development Engineer with deep expertise in beamline instrumentation development. The adecuado candidate will have strong hands‑on experience in plasma physics, particularly plasma diagnostics and confinement as well as electron / ion guns and / or atomic and molecular beam generation.
Responsibilities
Design, develop, and test advanced ion, electron, and atomic beam sources
Design, assemble, and operate plasma diagnostic instrumentation
Plan and execute experiments to verify operational and performance parameters
Produce mechanical, optomechanical, and mechatronic designs using CAD tools (e.g. Fusion360 or PTCCreo), following best practices for ultra‑high vacuum (UHV) systems
Operate and integrate laboratory test and measurement equipment, including oscilloscopes, DAQs, multimeters, timing devices, and multi‑instrument control systems
Develop Python scripts for experimental control, data acquisition, and data analysis
Iteratively refine and optimise designs based on experimental results
Prepare clear technical documentation and reports for internal stakeholders
Profile
PhD or advanced degree in Physics, Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent hands‑on industrial or research experience
Proven experience with plasma physics, molecular / atomic beams, ion beams, or electron beams in academic or industrial R&D; environments
Strong hands‑on experience with high and ultra‑high vacuum hardware and instrumentation
Excellent practical skills in experimental prototyping, system debugging, and test bench operation
Experience automating complex experimental setups involving actuators, lasers, and detectors is highly desirable
Proficiency in CAD software (e.g. SolidWorks, Fusion360, or equivalent)
