Satellite Operations Engineering Team Leader
We are seeking a Satellite Operations Engineering Team Leader to oversee the operations of Hispasat’s GEO satellite fleet. This role requires a blend of technical expertise in flight dynamics, platform/payload operations, team leadership, strategic coordination, and operational management of fleet performance. You will guide a team of engineers in planning, executing, and optimizing in-orbit operations, acting as the main liaison between operations, engineering, ground segment, and manufacturers.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Lead and manage the Satellite Operations Engineering team, ensuring high performance, effective collaboration, and ongoing team development.
2. Promote a culture of safety, reliability, and operational excellence, with continuous improvement of operational procedures.
3. Oversee daily operations and long-term planning for the GEO satellite fleet to ensure smooth mission execution.
4. Supervise flight dynamics activities, including orbit determination, station-keeping manoeuvres, and collision risk assessments.
5. Coordinate operational interfaces with internal teams and external stakeholders, including satellite manufacturers.
6. Support monitoring and analysis of platform and payload subsystems for early anomaly detection and performance trending.
7. Drive development and enhancement of operational tools, automation processes, and mission databases.
8. Manage anomaly lifecycle processes, including root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions.
9. Provide technical leadership, including overseeing training and skills development for engineers and satellite controllers.
10. Prepare and present fleet-level reports on satellite health, subsystem performance, anomalies, and KPIs.
11. Lead knowledge transfer initiatives, promoting documentation, standardization, and best practices.
12. Coordinate responses to critical operational events and support new satellite mission operations, including LEOP/IOT preparations.
13. Contribute to the evolution of satellite operations aligning with company objectives.
Minimum Qualifications:
* Master’s Degree in Aerospace Engineering or related field.
* At least 8 years in satellite operations, with 3+ years in a technical coordination role.
Technical Skills:
* Strong background in orbital mechanics, GEO platform subsystems (AOCS, EPS, propulsion, thermal), and payload management.
* Experience in anomaly resolution and contingency operations.
* Programming skills in Python, MATLAB, or similar for tool development and data analysis.
