Context And Mission The exponential growth of RISC-V in the market in the last few years demonstrates the industry’s commitment to its adoption. RISC-V is a key piece within the European strategy for its technological independence and autonomy from other regions. Thus, Europe has enabled multiple funding mechanisms around RISC-V in HPC, and BSC has been leading many of them. This has positioned BSC as a worldwide research center in RISC-V technology. In order to manage all this knowledge, BSC has developed a comprehensive intellectual property rights strategy based on 3 pillars:

1. Exploitable research results, promoting entrepreneurship.
2. Portfolio management, with protection strategies and Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) management.
3. Technology transfer, through IP licensing and spin-offs creation.

The implementation of this strategy will depend on the (inter)national industrial needs, the target market, the maturity of the ecosystem, the technology readiness level of the solution, and the new structure of BSC.

The Hardware RISC-V based IPs management for High-Performance Computing Applications into the market (HI4CA) research project envisions the creation of an advanced specialized technology transfer strategy for managing open hardware technologies produced at BSC, with special interest in RISC-V.

Reporting to BSC’s Technology Transfer Office (TTO) Manager and the Technical Management Hardware Engineering (TMHW) group’s lead, the BSC HI4CA tech innovation profile will facilitate the exploitation of BSC HI4CA open architectures (and related technologies) results produced at BSC. This means understanding, or at least being familiar with, the particularities of the open-source ecosystem RISC-V community), identifying new R&D&I opportunities, interfacing with the HPC entrepreneurial community, strengthening the link to industry, analysing spin-off creation opportunities and identifying market opportunities to transfer the knowledge and technology developed within the BSC HI4CA research project. The candidate will support the creation and maintenance of a sustainable technology strategy for BSC HI4CA project’s results, including the identification and validation of a value proposition and its corresponding transformation into a business plan for each of several technologies that ends up being profitable and attractive to companies and investors.

The HI4CA tech innovation candidate will play a key role as a bridge between the Technology Transfer Office (TTO) and the HPC Architecture Area within BSC. With the support of both, TTO and TMHW teams, the candidate will get familiar with HI4CA technologies to assess their maturity level, and be able to support in the identification of real markets’ interests, business model definition, and spin-off business plan preparation.

We are looking for a technical profile, with knowledge in computer architecture and experience with the open-source community, interested in exploring the entrepreneurship ecosystem as part of her/his professional career development.
