Postdoctoral Researcher Position: Child-Friendly Mobility Transitions

Position: Postdoctoral researcher (R2) in the SafePathways project.
Duration: 36 months, starting 1st January ****, 30 hours per week.
Contract Type: Full-time, temporary, funded by the European Driving Urban Transitions Partnership.

Overview
The SafePathways project examines safe and active everyday mobility among schoolchildren in European and East Asian cities. The research spans Barcelona, Riga, Rotterdam, and Taipei, focusing on built and social environments, participatory processes, and cross-cultural comparisons.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the work package on Concepts and Policies around Safe Children's Mobility.
* Develop a shared conceptual basis for co‑mapping and co‑creation phases.
* Design and implement co‑creative processes with children, parents, teachers, policymakers, and urban design experts.
* Organise and conduct fieldwork activities (interviews, walk‑along studies, focus groups, workshops) in Barcelona and collaborate with local stakeholders.
* Contribute to theoretical, methodological, and comparative analysis and produce inter‑locational insights.
* Support project deliverables, dissemination of concepts, guidelines, and policy recommendations.
* Participate in consortium meetings, knowledge exchange, and conferences.
* Publish findings in peer‑reviewed journals and present at conferences.
* Supervise one or more student or research assistants.
Qualifications
* Ph.D. in human geography, architecture, spatial/urban planning, urban design, public health, sport sciences, sociology, anthropology, or related discipline.
* High proficiency in written and spoken English; high or native proficiency in Spanish and Catalan.
* Interest in sustainable urban mobility, social inclusion, the 15‑minute city, and child‑friendly cities.
* Experience in co‑design/co‑creation, co‑mapping, citizen engagement, and participatory workshops.
* Qualitative fieldwork experience (interviews, focus groups, workshops).
* Experience in interdisciplinary or transdisciplinary collaboration with civil servants, educational organisations, or citizen communities.
* Strong presentation, writing, communication, and networking skills demonstrated through publications and conference participation.
Nice-to-Haves
* Experience working with younger age groups or harder‑to‑reach communities.
* Research on trust, social cohesion, or trans‑cultural studies.
* Knowledge of Spanish and Catalan education and mobility policies.
* Experience in international research projects.
