About the employer The Barcelona Supercomputing Center - Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC-CNS) is the leading supercomputing center in Spain. It houses MareNostrum, one of the most powerful supercomputers in Europe, and is involved in European HPC initiatives. The mission of BSC is to research, develop and manage information technologies to facilitate scientific progress, combining HPC service provision and R&D across computer and computational sciences with a diverse workforce.
Context and mission The Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) is pursuing large-scale projects for its next-generation supercomputer, the MareNostrum 6 (MN6), expected to be operational in 2028/2029. The team will include engineers and computer scientists at all levels, and the final team will be around 100 engineers and scientists. Applicants should have interest or experience in one or more of the following areas:
HPC analysis, including performance analysis of HPC applications and development of tools and benchmarks to characterize system behavior (e.g., performance tools).
[Optional] HPC application engineering, including understanding scientific HPC applications and improving their performance.
[Optional] HPC resource awareness, including knowledge of resource utilization and management (nodes, processors, memory) and tools (e.g., Slurm).
Key Duties Software configuration and enabling software packages for the RISC-V architecture.
Analyze the performance of parallel applications targeting RISC-V environments.
Document and disseminate developments and findings.
Requirements Education BS or MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering. Previous industrial experience is a big plus.
Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience Experience in industry is a big plus.
Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience Fluency in English is essential; Spanish is optional (free lessons available after joining).
Opportunity to enroll in Master or PhD program of UPC Computer Architecture Department.

Conditions The position will be located at BSC within the Computer Sciences Department.

Recruitment process The selection is conducted under a competitive examination system. The process includes:
Curriculum analysis (40 points).
Interview phase (60 points). A minimum of 30 points out of 60 is required to be eligible.
