Overview
Our client is the world’s largest independent research and innovation center for nanoelectronics and digital technology. Known as the global chip lab, they spearhead advancements in technology that address the most critical global challenges—from climate change and pollution to accessible healthcare and sustainable food production. Their work underpins innovations across health, automotive, agritech, energy, and more. As part of their expansion, our client is establishing a specialized chip technology pilot line in Málaga, Spain. This new facility will complement the advanced 300mm CMOS process line at their headquarters in Leuven, Belgium, with developments in 300mm processes and new material integrations. The Málaga site will support R&D, prototyping, and future manufacturing of breakthrough technologies in healthcare, life sciences, photonics, AR/VR, and precision sensing.
Role
As an experienced Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) Manager, you will play a key role in ensuring environmental compliance and a safe, healthy working environment for the cleanroom operations in Málaga. In-depth knowledge of Spanish EHS legislation is essential to succeed in this role.
Responsibilities
* Based in Malaga, you will follow up the EHS design review- and the permitting process for the chip technology pilot line in Malaga. During the construction of the new pilot line, you will be the company’s local EHS representative. Once the pilot line is started up, you will be responsible for EHS management. This includes:
* Environment
o Ensure legal compliance (permits, inspections, reporting).
o Organize and maintain the environmental management system.
o Conduct EHS risk assessments and screen operational changes/projects for environmental impact.
o Organize internal audits and self-inspections.
o Act as spokesperson during governmental environmental audits.
o Represent the site in the local EHS council.
* Health
o Provide health surveillance for imec employees.
o Deliver EHS training.
o Support incident/accident investigations with health implications.
* Safety
o Conduct EHS risk assessments and screen operational changes/projects for safety risks.
o Develop emergency response plans and train the local emergency response team.
o Manage contractor safety and site security.
