Overview

We are looking for someone who is passionate about developing high-performance and/or highly-secured Java applications! Sqills, part of Siemens Mobility Software, is a leading technology company focused on providing innovative solutions for the public transport industry. We are dedicated to improving the passenger experience and increasing operational efficiency for our clients across the globe. We share one common goal: enhancing the passenger experience with our combined power for the future of Mobility.

As an experienced Java Developer, you have a wide range of opportunities. You will be working for a company that supports your professional development and offers you the chance to work on a mission-critical SaaS suite. We are looking for Java Developers who want to work with the latest techniques and continue to challenge themselves. Siemens operates a Software Development Center in Spain, Valencia targeting Intelligent Solutions for the future of Mobility. We want YOU to join our team.

Our approach

This position is for one of our DevOps teams. DevOps teams develop and maintain microservices that are part of S3 Passenger, our ticket and seat-reservation backend system. Some microservices are high-performing and others need extra security because they handle payment data. The team also develops other applications in Java and is in charge of our CI/CD development pipelines and other tooling that support our daily responsibilities. In addition to Java, the team may also code in Kotlin and Go.

We encourage exploring new technologies to improve the performance of our microservices. Sqills uses Terraform, Kubernetes, and a number of other tools to manage the infrastructure (Infrastructure as Code). Our infrastructure includes traditional services, AWS Lambda, and managed services such as DynamoDB, RDS, AmazonMQ, CloudWatch, and ELB. We monitor services in production using OpenTelemetry, New Relic, and PagerDuty. We also have a custom-built frontend that integrates these monitoring tools and visualises distributed traces to help analyse errors in our microservice landscape. Secure development, architecture, performance, and resiliency are the cornerstones across teams, ensuring our software meets future expectations. We continuously strive to improve code quality with an emphasis on performance and reliability, sharing workloads within the team and helping each other achieve goals.

Your key responsibilities:

* Collaborating on software used to find and book seats for major international travel brands like Eurostar, Renfe, and SNCF.
* Optimising the processing of asynchronous requests for high-availability, high-performance components and enhancing security where possible.
* Improving development pipelines and helping analyse new feature requests.
* Continuously refactoring code to improve quality and performance.

Are you a match?

* Do you have what it takes to work on a mission critical Java microservice?
* Are you passionate about refactoring code and making it shine?
* Do you enjoy working in a team that welcomes new perspectives and is eager to hear your ideas?
* Do you enjoy learning a new programming language or technology?
* Are you proficient in Dutch and/or English with strong communication skills?
* Do you want to have a seriously good time doing all of this?
* Do you thrive in a “work hard and play hard” culture with team outings, company events, and other activities?

Curious?

Our software is complex; applying for a job shouldn’t be. We’ll only ask for a name, a phone number or email address.

We value diversity and encourage applications from a diverse talent pool. We are open to discussing flexibility requirements to encourage agile working and innovation. Flexibility is our main benefit; we combine remote and presence work to support work-life balance and wellbeing, aiming to foster creativity, collaboration, and learning.

Siemens advocates equal opportunities and values diversity as a source of creativity and innovation. We welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds and encourage representation across roles.
