ARQUIMEA Research Center (ARC) was established in 2019 with the aim of inventing the technologies of tomorrow. We foster an environment of innovation and excellence at a European level where senior and junior researchers from around the world develop disruptive technologies and business models that will serve as an engine of socio-economic growth in the medium and long term.
We are looking for a Research Engineer in Power Electronics, particularly in battery-powered mobile systems and related to electric motors.
Tasks to be performed :
* Leading the identification of main requirements and key drivers for the electronics architecture of robotic systems.
* Steering multidisciplinary reviews and collaborating with other teams to ensure seamless integration and delivery of systems.
* Designing advanced motor inverters and control systems for brushless DC, servo, or stepper motors.
* Overseeing the design of control hardware and associated protection systems.
* Developing thermal management solutions for power electronics systems.
* Conducting systematic research on the latest power electronics technologies and exploring their application in robotics.
* Guiding the team in model-based design processes, simulations, and PCB designs (using Altium) prior to prototyping.
* Leading agile planning meetings and contributing to agile-based work management tools.
* Ensuring comprehensive internal and external documentation of projects.
Required skills, experience, and candidate profile :
* Degree (PhD or Master’s) in Electrical / Electronics Engineering or a related field.
* Extensive experience in the design, implementation, and testing of power electronic circuits, including motor drivers, inverters, and control systems.
* Deep knowledge of control hardware and protection hardware.
* Expertise in device characteristics and issues with switching behavior in real circuits, as well as power switch driver design.
* Experience with EMI mitigation and protection.
* Proficiency in thermal management approaches for power electronics.
* Comprehensive understanding of power electronic devices, including silicon-based IGBTs, MOSFETs, and wide bandgap technologies. Experience with SiC / GaN electronics is highly desirable.
* Proficiency with modeling tools (Altium, Matlab, Simulink / Simscape, or comparable tools). Strong knowledge of electric motor and machine operation and control would be advantageous.
Additionally, we will also value experience in the following areas :
* Proven track record of working in a research-oriented environment. Experience working with agile methodologies is desired.
* Basic understanding of mechanics, electronics, and software, and their role / impact in complex systems and their control.
* Data-driven, analytical mindset. Open to challenges.
* Detail-oriented person, with experience working in agile development environments, especially when focused on product hardware development.
