Who are we looking for ?

The Research Unit on Information and Signal Processing for Intelligent Communications (ISPIC) of the CTTC is searching for interested candidates in a Research Engineer position.

We are looking for a highly motivated and skilled engineer who is willing to deepen his/her knowledge in AI-related techniques such as deep learning and reinforcement learning applied to wireless communication networks.

The successful candidate will participate in the experimental research activities of the R&D project WAVE-XL, a three-year project which follows up on the successful predecessor projects ARISTIDES (https://aristides.cttc.es/ ) and 6G-AINA (https://6g-aina.cttc.es/ ).

The WAVE-XL project as a whole will explore the advanced capabilities of ultra-massive MIMO architectures and their practical implementation, with a particular focus on holographic MIMO systems. Special emphasis will be placed on innovative signal and information processing techniques that enable the computationally efficient deployment of transceivers within these massive architectures. Key areas of investigation will include the integration of AI, data compression, over-the-air and coded computing. These cutting-edge approaches will be examined to enhance the practicality and scalability of implementing these technologies in real-world scenarios.

Experimental activities will be based on software defined radio (SDR) modules. The selected candidate is expected to develop demonstrators and an experimental platform based on USRPs to test AI-based communication algorithms under realistic channel conditions. The offered position is an excellent opportunity to further develop the candidate’s SDR skills, acquire state-of-the-art experience on wireless communication networks demonstrators, as well as cutting-edge knowledge on machine learning/AI-related techniques for PHY layer communication systems.

Skills/Qualifications

Qualifications and Experience

* We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic, energetic person, aiming at significantly improving his/her career perspectives in both public and private sectors. Applicants must have a Master‘s degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field.
* Solid understanding of the fundamentals of PHY layer wireless communications engineering
* Good knowledge of software-defined radio technologies (e.g. GNU Radio)
* Strong programming experience with Matlab
* Ability to work autonomously and be an excellent team player
* Other skills that are valuable, but not mandatory:
o Strong research contributions (e.g., publications in indexed journals or reputable conferences) in areas related to PHY layer wireless communications
o Programming skills (e.g., Python, C++)
o Familiarity with ML algorithms, especially deep learning
o Experience in R&D or industrial projects carried out either in the context of research institutions or industry
o Testbed management and experience on proof-of-concept / demonstration development
o Proficiency in code versioning (git or similar)
o Contributions to open source projects
o English skills

* We offer a permanent scientic-technical contract with a minium duration of 18 months
* Annual gross salary according to the profile of the candidate
* Full-time contract: 7,5 h/day. Flexibility
* The expected professional category is R2. However, in the event that the selected person does not attain the R2 category, but can demonstrate relevant research experience and meet the other requirements established in the call, the recruitment may be carried out in the R1 category (Junior Researcher).
