Job Description We are seeking a highly experienced Commissioning Manager with a strong background in water infrastructure projects to lead commissioning activities across major national projects. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise, strong leadership, and hands-on experience in the start-up and operational readiness of complex water treatment systems.
This role will initially be heavily involved in tender activities, supporting the process from Expression of Interest (EOI) through to Request for Quotation (RFQ) phases. It also requires flexibility to travel across Australia, supporting multiple project sites during critical phases of delivery.
This role can be based in Brisbane, Melbourne or Sydney.
Key Responsibilities Lead and manage the commissioning phase of water infrastructure projects, including desalination, wastewater, and industrial water treatment plants.
Oversee planning, execution, and documentation of commissioning activities, ensuring alignment with project timelines and quality standards.
Coordinate with engineering, construction, and operations teams to ensure seamless transition from construction to operation.
Supervise MEICA (Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Control & Automation) systems commissioning.
Manage start-up procedures, performance testing, and troubleshooting of water treatment systems.
Provide technical assistance and training to operations staff.
Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
Liaise with clients, subcontractors, and stakeholders to ensure expectations are met.
Support tender preparation, including technical input, methodology, commissioning strategies, and resource planning.
Contribute to project delivery planning, risk assessments, and resource allocation.
Required Skills and Competencies Minimum 10 years of experience in water infrastructure projects, with at least 5 years in commissioning management roles.
Hands-on experience managing subcontractors.
Previous exposure to water infrastructure projects.
Proven experience with shutdowns, commissioning and on-site coordination.
Strong communication, documentation and problem-solving skills.
Strong understanding of automation and control systems.
Experience in tendering and project delivery within water infrastructure.
Willingness and ability to travel across Australia as required.
Excellent leadership, analytical, and communication skills.
Ability to manage multidisciplinary teams and complex technical environments.
Preferred Qualifications Degree in Chemical, Environmental, or Mechanical Engineering (or related field).
Experience working with EPC contractors or water utilities.
Familiarity with commissioning software and documentation tools.
