About BSC
The Barcelona Supercomputing Center - Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC-CNS) is the leading supercomputing center in Spain. It houses MareNostrum, one of the most powerful supercomputers in Europe, and is a founding member of the former European HPC infrastructure PRACE. BSC hosts the EuroHPC JU, the Joint Undertaking that leads large-scale investments and HPC provision in Europe. The mission of BSC is to research, develop and manage information technologies to facilitate scientific progress. BSC combines HPC service provision and R&D in computer and computational science (life, earth and engineering sciences) and currently has over 1000 staff from 60 countries.
Context and Mission
The Language Technologies Laboratory at BSC specializes in massive language model building, biomedical text mining, machine translation and unsupervised learning for under-resourced languages and domains. It has been entrusted by the Spanish and Catalan governments to develop open-source resources and technologies for Spanish and Catalan. The LT Laboratory is currently leading two flagship projects: ALIA (funded by the Spanish Secretariat of Digitalisation and Artificial Intelligence) and AINA (funded by the Catalan Digitalisation Department). The laboratory also participates in various EU-funded international projects. The position will focus on extending large language models to include the speech modality and developing end‑to‑end speech‑to‑speech models.
Key Duties
* Participation in current projects related to speech technologies, including research, documentation and deliverables.
* Design and development of innovative modules for speech LLMs.
* Design and development of speech synthesis modules.
* Writing and presentation of scientific articles.
* Supervision of junior research engineers.
* Participation in internal group meetings and other scientific discussions.
* Research and writing of new scientific projects.
Requirements
* Education
o Master's degree in Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics or a related subject with specialization in speech processing and recognition and a background in computation.
* Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
o Machine learning, Linux, Python, and deep learning libraries.
o Ability to evaluate scientific literature and conduct research.
* Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience
o Fluency in spoken and written English, Spanish and/or Catalan.
o Strong interest in Speech and Natural Language Processing.
* Competences
o Good communication and presentation skills.
o Ability to work independently and within a team.
o Ability to work under set deadlines.
Conditions
* Full‑time contract (37.5 h/week) with flexible working hours.

* Open‑ended contract linked to technical and scientific activities and budget duration.
* Holidays: 22 days + 6 personal days + 24 th and 31 st December per collective agreement.
