Program Overview The Fully‐Funded PhD Programme offered by The Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ) aims at exceptional graduate students worldwide to support enrolment in a training and research programme in chemistry, leading to a Doctoral Thesis in partnership with Universitat Rovira i Virgili (URV).
This program contributes to professional career development in academia and industry through research projects, short stays in distinguished international research institutions, complementary training in technical and soft skills, scientific seminars, hands‐on training in state‐of‐the‐art instrumentation, IP management, entrepreneurship, research integrity, knowledge and technology transfer, grant applications, project management, communication skills and career development.
ICIQ also offers a yearly personalised training programme (SHARP, 2‐week) focused on the PhD year.
Responsibilities Perform an individual research project under the direction of an internationally renowned Group Leader in a creative and stimulating scientific environment.
Participate in short stays at distinguished international research institutions.
Engage in complementary training opportunities in both technical and soft skills.
Qualifications Master's or equivalent degree in Chemistry, Pharmacy, Physics, Chemical Engineering or related disciplines, completed before enrolment.
Excellent academic record, strong commitment to scientific research and solid working knowledge of English.
Competitive selection basis. Only one application per person is considered.

Official transcripts of BSc and MSc studies in PDF format; certified translation to English if not in Catalan, Spanish or English.

Evidence of English proficiency (B2 certificate, IELTS 6 or equivalent preferred). Applicants from Anglosphere countries are exempt.
Incomplete applications will not be considered. Only short‐listed candidates will be invited for a personal interview.
Benefits and Grant Conditions Fully funded pre‐doctoral contract regulated by Spanish law *******, of June 1st, of Science, Technology and Education.
Pre‐doctoral contracts renewed annually for up to 4 years, subject to satisfactory performance.
Gross yearly salary: 1st and 2nd year: ******,22€ /year; 3rd year: ******,88€ /year; 4th year: ******,10€ /year.
Fellowship includes full social security coverage, access to public health care, pension and unemployment benefits.
Students may temporarily interrupt fellowship for temporary disability, risk during pregnancy, maternity, paternity and adoption or foster care; interruption time not counted against total time.
PhD thesis must be completed within 4 years; students work full‐time at ICIQ and may not receive any other fellowship or regular income.
Fully‐funded PhD position is incompatible with any other fellowship with same purpose.
