The i2CAT Foundation (Barcelona) is opening a position to advance in the research and innovation field of real-time distributed video services, involving immersive media formats like volumetric video.
The candidate will join the Media & Internet Area (MIA) of i2CAT, which comprises over 18 experienced researchers and engineers in distributed and interactive multimedia systems and media processing. The team is involved in relevant R&I projects with European and national ecosystems, collaborating closely with academia and industry.
This area seeks a highly skilled Research Engineer with experience in volumetric video streaming. The ideal candidate should have expertise in video codecs and low-level programming (C / C++), with experience in GPGPU (CUDA / OpenCL) being a plus. Responsibilities include maintaining and developing new features for the volumetric video compression pipeline.
The role involves engaging in cutting-edge research, innovation, and development activities, contributing to high-impact scientific publications, technology transfer, open-source projects, patents, and standards. The work will shape future technologies such as HoloMIT, Neural Radiance Fields, and Gaussian Splatting, providing career development opportunities.
The candidate will also participate in the development and maintenance of the volumetric video pipeline and contribute to projects like Didymos, XRECO, and PRESENCE.

The ideal candidate must have proven track record of :
* At least 2 years of professional development experience, ideally within teams of 5 or more
Proven experience in C++
Knowledge of video codecs such as H.264, H.265, H.266, and volumetric point cloud compression (VPCC, Draco) is required.
Experience in graphics, XR, VR, AR technologies is preferred.
Strong programming skills, best practices in software and architecture design, and experience with agile methodologies are essential.
Teamwork and interpersonal skills are important.
Experience in C# and parallel programming models (OpenMP, MPI, Multicore) is a plus.
