Position: Physician Assistant - Division of Gastroenterology
Cedars-Sinai Medical Group is seeking an experienced Physician Assistant to join our Department of Gastroenterology. You will work alongside other Advanced Practice Providers (APPs), including Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners, with a team comprising 3 APPs and 10 GI physicians. The role involves outpatient responsibilities, including:
* Evaluate and treat patients independently.
* Review and inform patients of laboratory and diagnostic test results.
* Authorize pharmacy refills.
* Collaborate with medical assistants and secretaries.
* Triage patient calls and messages.
Our APPs are authorized to diagnose and treat healthcare problems based on protocols or in collaboration with physicians. They may perform specialty procedures according to approved protocols and:
* Take patient histories, perform physical exams, assess, initiate, review, and revise treatment plans, and document relevant data.
* Order or transmit orders for diagnostic and therapeutic services.
* Recognize urgent situations and initiate life-saving procedures when necessary.
* Instruct and counsel patients on health matters, medications, diets, and lifestyle habits.
* Arrange admissions, complete necessary documentation, and provide ongoing care.
* Facilitate referrals to appropriate community resources.
* Consult with supervising physicians when situations exceed protocols or scope of practice.
Preferred experience includes performing office visits, laboratory, screening, and diagnostic procedures such as fecal disimpaction, anoscopy, perianal abscess therapy, EKG interpretation, simple X-ray reading, and detailed abdominal exams.
Qualifications
Educational Requirements: Master of Science Degree in Physician Assistant Studies
Certification: National Certification as a Physician Assistant, BLS and ACLS Certification, DEA Certification
Experience: Minimum 2 years in relevant clinical areas (e.g., GI, general surgery, reconstructive surgery, or other surgical specialties) or equivalent experience.
