Position Summary
The Pastry Assistant supports the Pastry Chef and the culinary team in the daily preparation, production, decoration, and presentation of pastry and bakery items. This role contributes to maintaining high standards of quality, cleanliness, food safety, and presentation, ensuring that all pastry products are prepared consistently and in line with hotel standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Pastry Chef and pastry team with the daily preparation and production of desserts, pastries, cakes, breads, doughs, creams, fillings, and other bakery or pastry items.
- Prepare and organize ingredients according to recipes, production lists, and hotel standards.
- Weigh, measure, mix, knead, roll, cut, shape, bake, decorate, and finish pastry products as required.
- Support the preparation of items for breakfast, buffets, events, banquets, restaurants, room service, and special requests.
- Ensure that all pastry items are prepared, portioned, decorated, and presented according to quality and presentation standards.
- Check the freshness, quality, and appearance of ingredients and finished products before use or service.
- Store ingredients and finished products correctly, following proper labeling, dating, rotation, and temperature control procedures.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the pastry kitchen, workstations, storage areas, refrigerators, freezers, ovens, equipment, and utensils.
- Clean and sanitize work surfaces, tools, machines, molds, trays, and equipment after use.
- Follow all food hygiene, health, safety, and sanitation procedures at all times.
- Inform the Pastry Chef or supervisor of any product shortages, quality issues, equipment problems, maintenance needs, accidents, injuries, or unsafe working conditions.
- Assist with inventory control by helping to monitor stock levels and reduce waste.
- Use kitchen equipment and tools safely and correctly, following hotel procedures.
- Work efficiently during busy service periods and support the team to ensure smooth daily operations.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with chefs, supervisors, and other team members.
- Maintain a positive and cooperative attitude, supporting teamwork within the culinary department.
- Ensure that uniform and personal appearance are clean, tidy, and professional at all times.
- Protect hotel property, equipment, and confidential information.
- Complete all required training and follow company policies and procedures.
- Perform other reasonable duties as requested by supervisors or managers.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, lift, carry, push, and pull during the shift.
- Ability to work in a kitchen environment with heat, cold storage areas, and kitchen equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
- Related Work Experience: No related work experience.
- Supervisory Experience: No supervisory experience.
- License or Certification: None.
