 
        
        Reuters is looking for an outstanding reporter to drive coverage of Spanish and Portuguese energy companies and energy policy as Europe grapples with its worst supply** **crisis in generations as a consequence of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. The rapid rise in the cost of energy has taken regional economies to the brink of recession and increased the momentum of the transition from fossil fuels to renewables. The correspondent should also deliver stories on and contribute to coverage of climate change and the energy transition across Europe. 
The successful correspondent will be responsible for corporate coverage of the region’s top energy companies - including Repsol, Iberdrola and Naturgy - and the evolving energy policies of both countries. You will be expected to build excellent contacts inside these companies and the eco-system around them to break news and lead the narrative on corporate strategy. You will also work closely with finance team colleagues on key M&A; activity in energy. 
**About the job** 
As our Iberia Energy Correspondent, you will: 
- Break market-moving news and deliver longer-form stories on energy companies, policy and climate change 
- Work closely with the global C&E; team, Iberia’s breaking news hub and the bureau’s other beat correspondents to ensure we follow up fast with insight and original reporting when energy-related news breaks 
- Work closely with the global climate change editor and other reporters in Europe to deliver agenda-setting stories on climate change 
- Expand coverage of how Spain, Portugal and other countries deal with an energy crisis this winter and beyond 
- Develop impeccable sources among corporate executives, board members, lawyers, bankers and politicians 
**About you** 
To be our Iberia Energy Correspondent, you will ideally have: 
- At least five years of experience covering energy or financial markets, or in corporate coverage 
- A proven ability to break news fast and reliably 
- Strong news judgment, ability to write with speed, clarity and accuracy 
- A passion for telling corporate stories and ability to blend company/political/energy news 
- Ability to span the entire file from exclusives to longer -form investigative pieces including special reports 
- Language skills to operate effectively in Spain 
- Excellent written English
